It already is.

My feeling on the idea is that it should be optional. If a teacher wants to carry, let them. But don't force every teacher to do it.

Go beyond that, schools need to ensure teachers are responsible enough to carry.

We bemoan public schools and teachers constantly. If my kids are required to be there, I want to know their teacher with the firearm isn't a total moron.

Yes, it is

The left doesnt want solutions to this problem. The first story of a teacher stopping a school shooter would devastate their cause.

Who would have been the designated armed teacher at the old alma mater? Coach Comeaux?

Kinda like the unintended consequences of schools being gun free zones.

So a school being a gun free zone means that there is no one, including marshals and guards, that have guns?

and the first story of some hot head teacher shooting an unarmed student will devastating to this idea

like I said, there is no simple solution to this, and any way we go with it, will be politicized in every way

so no, it isn't simple

Doubt anyone will be forced to carry.

Should registered and legal gun carrying parents be allowed to carry on school grounds? Serious question.

How would we feel about that? Parents picking up their kids, parent/teacher conferences, etc. Can they bring their gun on campus?

Seems to me, it means those with bad intentions pretty clearly know who doesn't have a gun.

You can. You just can't go inside the school. At least in texas.

How many times has this happened so far in schools that already allow teachers to carry?

The left has really shown how little they think of teachers and their ability to control themselves.

I'll add to this - if parents should be allowed to carry on school grounds, how do you disallow students who are of age to conceal carry in that state?

can you make a post without the "the left" bs?

this is seemingly a decent thread to discuss this so far

spare me the bullshite

and teachers can't stop themselves from fricking students, so spare me the idea that teachers have complete control over their emotions

We don’t have keys.
We unlock/enter the rooms using magnetized cards or fobs, held in front of electronic readers.
I lock the door 10 minutes into class.
Students can leave at anytime by simply exiting (no key); but they’d have to knock to re-enter.

We also have a Classroom Lockdown System that provides electronic access to immediately lock all entrances to the classroom without me having to move from the teaching podium.
So if I ever forget to lock the door once class has started and something terrible happens, I can use a pushbutton to activate the locking system.
Pushing that button places the door’s electronic lockset into “locked” mode, and it cannot be opened via a hallway card or fob.
