Teacher with $303,000 student debt says Biden loan-forgiveness not even a drop in bucket

If it weren't for compounding interest, Cheryl — who requested her last name be withheld for privacy concerns — thinks President Joe Biden's plans to forgive $10,000 in student debt for federal borrowers might have made a difference for her.
But with $303,000 in federal student debt — and an additional $20,000 in private student loans — the president's plan just isn't enough.

"I'm totally screwed," Cheryl said. "And now I'm trying to put a kid through college and he got a good scholarship, but it doesn't pay for everything. I have no idea how I'm going to do it, I guess I'll have to get another job."
quote:
Although Cheryl's profession technically qualifies for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which forgives student debt for public servants after ten years of qualifying payments, she was denied due to what she said was her time spent in payment forbearance while in school.

This teacher is an idiot.
But, the $10,000 drop from Biden is a pretty large smack in the face to his supporters.

How is this even possible? Did this braindead moron stay in college for 10 years to keep partying or something?

If she chose teaching as a career, why did she choose an expensive AF school?
That, or she maxxed out her loan request just to have a bunch of money to spend on bullshite while she was in school?

Didnt Biden just redo this to take away a lot of the restrictions of this program.
Also, this person is stupid you shouldnt have $303,000 in student loans no matter the degree, but especially teaching. She didnt need a masters degree, you could have got an undergrad teaching degree and be able to work as a teach right away and get masters latter.

I’m just baffled that “smart” people like this didn’t evaluate the full picture when they were getting so educated.
How hard is it to evaluate this?
I’m going to get this type of degree and can do a b or c and they that pays this much more or less depending on where i work and what I do.
Racking up 250k in school loans is not good business unless your going to make 200k+

Ya think?
Odd that a husband isn’t mentioned. Maybe herein lies the problem.

Her student loan debt is higher than ALL of my debt; house, 2 vehicles, etc

What an idiot.
All she needed to do was find a minimum payment plan and pay it for 120 months and skate.
You can’t fix stupid.

Many districts here in Missouri will pay around half of the cost of a Master’s for their teachers.

Irrational, needs a mental health check pronto.

Sounds like a bad financial decision...
People are out of touch with reality.

Why would a teaching degree even remotely be this much?
Also, anyone stupid enough to rack up this much debt pursuing a teaching degree, SHOULD NOT be teaching anything...
What an idiot...

$300,000 dollars of student loans to be a teacher? And this dumbo is teaching kids!
Posted on 6/6/22 at 9:22 am to boogiewoogie1978
Why would you spend $323K to make tops of $70K?

The hell? How??? Did she buy a Bentley and spend a summer in Paris?? How does that even happen?

I’m guessing she doesn’t have a husband. Gee I wonder why no guy would commit to a woman 300k in debt?
Posted on 6/6/22 at 9:24 am to boogiewoogie1978
303K for a teaching degree? Where the frick did she go? 303K is something that I would think a doctor has in debt after medical school. Did this chick not work at all during college? I assume she took that much out to just live a great life while getting her teaching degree?
