Tax deferment panic trap

Noticed a concerted effort of stories in the last 24-hours pushing military families to panic over the tax deferment because OMB and he’s going to take all your money back in January.
I’ve seen nothing definitive that the deferment is absolute, as the media is portraying. Does anyone else have more familiarity?

There's no way either candidate can enforce the repayment without being absolutely excoriated for it. Trump wants to dissolve the payroll tax completely (funding SS by other means) and Biden promised this week that no one under $400k will see their taxes increase... even though he's already said he'll repeal Trump's tax cuts.

The president does not have authority to change tax collection.
He does have authority to direct a deferrement on its collection.
Congress has failed the american people so POTUS is doing what is within his power. If the taxes are forced to be collected in Jan it is because congress refused to pass the tax relief.

My company refuses to acknowledge the order and is continuing tax collection. I asked them yesterday and they declined to follow the order. They are attacking Trump as well saying he put them in a precarious position since the money is owed in Jan.

I mean they aren’t completely wrong.
But its not Trump’s fault. Pelosi and crew are holding stimulus packages hostage unless the repubs agree to another TRILLION dollars attached to the package. That extra trillion dollars is almost entirely for failing cities and states plus mail in ballots.
In other words, unless you give the dems more Of YOUR tax money for their shithole cities filled with rioting - you cant have any help.

My understanding that Congress has to change it in order for it not have to be paid back. We were told we were getting the cut, but to be ready to pay it back in case Congress didn’t act.

I’ve always thought it redundant that a Govt employee gets taxes taken out of their check. If you think about it, it doesn’t make sense considering they’re paid with tax money
