My wife an I were taking the grandchildren for a walk Friday. A Buford policeman stopped and rolled down his passenger window. He just asked "How is everything, It's a nice day to take a walk". My wife chimed in and said "It's a shame what you are being accused of and I think it is wrong".

He then walked out of his cruiser and I explained to my granddaughters that he has a radio, camera and "bug spray" on his vest.

Meanwhile, my wife is talking about people she knows with the last name that lived in our area. They talked about housing prices. They talked about how extremely expensive it is to live in Buford.

I have to admit, when this policeman came out of his car, wearing approximately 40 lbs. of vest, guns, tasers and handcuffs, It bothered me.

They have to carry all this because the people that they try to arrest fight and shoot them.

They carry tasers because politician want them to have something to use other than a gun and a night stick

Lucky he has a weight bearing vest. Most of us have back issues from wearing that stuff on a “Batman” belt.

Sounds like most...probably a nice kid.

ETA: it’s more healthy to wear all that shite on a vest, but politicians think it looks too “military”. Pussies

Would you do his job without full ability to protect yourself? No one is looking at it from the cops perspective. There are 2 sides to every issue. Too much emotion in one makes people blind to the other side of the coin.

I remember when the first cop in my town started wearing a vest. He was a brand new cop and was the only one to wear one for years. It was under his uniform so not so obvious as the ones they generally wear today. Us kids called him Bulletproof.

That was the late 80's.

Now they look suited up for Fallujah.

I'm not the biggest fan of cops to begin with and the militarization of them bothers me. But, I don't like to see them treated the way they have been recently.

Pretty much how I am as well.

They can be over aggressive at times and the militarization has gone way too far, however to claim that Chauvin represents a majority of cops is ridiculous. And politicians preventing them from doing their jobs, but rather making them stand there being pelted with rocks is untenable.

Agree, isn't it sad that he has to get up and put this gear on everyday due to criminals that may resist, attack or fight with him at any given moment.

Just think, if you were black, you'd probably be dead right now based on interaction with a policeman. You're one lucky guy.
