Fox News, Taxes on Guns and Ammuntion in Tacoma WA.

quote:

In an 8-0 vote Tuesday night, the city council of Tacoma, Wash., approved new taxes on the sales of firearms and ammunition.

quote:

When the taxes take effect July 1, 2020, gun buyers will pay a $25 tax on each purchase, plus 2 cents per round on ammunition of .22 caliber or less, and 5 cents per round on all other types of ammunition, the News Tribune of Tacoma reported.

I have been saying it for a while that this is what is going to happen. This is the start and there will be no confiscation it will start small with a tax such as this one and move on to insurance and an annual license that will ever increase. This is the beginning of trying to make firearms so expensive that the average person will not be able to buy rounds and purchase new firearms.

This should be unconstitutional for the same reason a poll tax is unconstitutional.

It would be the same as if the government imposed a tax on people writing a letter to the editor or posting to an online political thread.

Why not add a tax for every church service you attend? You want to plead the 5th Ammendment? Fine, please pay your $200 dollar tax first.

Repeat of what the National Firearms Act tried at the national level. The $200 transfer tax, while small today, was equivalent to thousands of dollars when it was passed in 1934.

Tacoma just decided it wanted to take guns out of the hands of the poor. This of course means that minorities will be less able to afford weapons and ammo than whites. This fits perfectly with the white supremacist culture that thrives in the Pacific Northwest. They might as well go back to their exclusion laws

No vote needed. You will pay your tax and you will like it.

The gun tax is unconstitutional. The ammo tax will probably be allowed.

Set up a gun shop right outside city limits.

All they did is kill gun shops in Tacoma. That business will go elsewhere.

How many RockChuckers and similar presses exist in Tacoma? Sound money making/saving investments for the area.

The NRA is more on the legislative side. I can promise you that the 2nd Amendment Foundation will file a lawsuit.

So what was a $20 box of bulk .22LR ammo before taxes will now have a $35 tax and cost $55?

This is so dumb it makes my head hurt.

Does .223 ammo classify as .22 ammo? Technically it is larger than .22. That would be hilarious if .223 ammo falls in the same category as .22LR after all of these anti-rights people cry about how "deadly" .223 ammo is.

Not to be infringed. This is as unconstitutional as taxes being used to take property.
