The US Supreme Court has dismissed three pending appeals on former President Donald Trump’s effort to withhold law enforcement grants from states and cities that refused to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, according to reports.

The high court acted shortly after the Biden administration, as well as state and city governments in New York and California, jointly asked it to dismiss the appeals, Fox News reported.

Attorneys for jurisdictions challenging the order in the three cases — which involve the Big Apple and San Francisco — said they agreed with the new administration that the cases should be dismissed.

So our highest court doesn't want to get involved with a case where a major federal law is openly broken.

I'm relieved.

The sanctuary cities action within itself has been explained as breaking federal law.

Roberts got a message from long legged mack daddy. Roberts is as partisan and compromised as Judge Sullivan at this point.

The very act of sanctuary cities breaks federal law.

I strongly disagree with the Biden administration dropping prosecution but this is how it's supposed to work. If there is no one to prosecute then the case has to be dropped. Sullivan blatantly disregarded that principle and appointed his own prosecutor.

So a new set of Biden govt DOJ lawyers makes the case moot; and the SCOTUS was just acting on this- as they had no other choice?

I see the valid points; but I would have hoped sanctuary cities was not a partisan thing as I have seen brilliant lawyers say first and foremost the creation of sanctuary cities was against existing federal laws.

No.

The US government was the appellant. The appellant gave notice of the dismissal of its appeal. The SCOTUS has no jurisdiction when the appellant ceases to appeal.

It really is this simple. SCOTUS had no discretion here.

Yet those criticizing SCOTUS for this dismissal will insist that they understand the judicial system better than you and I. People who cannot grasp basic procedure think they are Constitutional scholars.

The government chose not to pursue the appeal. The court can’t just hear a case because it wants to.

Two sets of laws.

Conservatives must obey the law or get punished heavily.

Liberals get to do whatever they want.

Let’s see what happens when States make girls sports a sanctuary by not allowing boy in skirts to play, or enforce the upcoming gun laws.
