Not a trick, just wanting to know what it is and why it is terrible?

The U.S. government is allowed to spy on foreign nationals. But a lot of times, that foreign national is conversing with a U.S. citizen. When this occurs, the intelligence agency is required to "mask" the U.S. citizen. So in the transcript of the conversation it will say something USC #1 (United States Citizen) instead of their name.

Now, there are parameters to "unmask" - get their name and other info - that citizen when the government believes it has evidence of crime or other necessities. That is "unmasking".

So is Tigerdroppings. Why do you post here if not to gather or share information?

Just remember, that's not the illegal part. Whoever leaked it to the press committed the felony by violating an American Citizen's protected rights, which supersede any other argument thrown your way when discussing this topic.

I know that Vox definition maybe true, but Obama signed an Executive Order allowing everybody and their granny to request an unmasking.

Unmasking is allowed right now. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but that is a conversation.

Leaking is the problem here.

Who leaked it, and at whose direction?

I wager it'll be tough to ever find that out, unless the proxies who carried the message sing about who gave the order, and on up the ladder you have to go. At some point there will probably be a good bit of Omerta once the heat starts reaching the upper rungs.

Just curious bc I don’t know—would Biden, Comey, Clapper, etc have known that Flynn was the redacted name on the transcript when they asked that the name be unmasked? It seems that if they didn’t actually know it was him, then this might not be that big of a deal. Obviously, if they did know it was him, then it would be. Again, I don’t know—can anyone explain this process in detail?

That's kind of my question -- so, anyone can just go around asking who person A is in these things?

Thank the Nobel Prize winner for that. All the crying about the Patriot Act and spying from the left during Bush's Presidency was an absolute lie.

Based on the transcript, they would have known it was someone associated with Trump.

This is true, leaking the name of the masked person to the media or public, same thing because the media tells the public, is illegal.

My thing with this is, the number of people requesting, and the actual names. This was nothing more than an act to "get" Trump.

Every American should be pissed by this.
