All four of these guys have been indicted over the past few years. Three convicted. One is in the slammer; two have served time. Things don’t look good for Strain. What is it about St. Tammany Parish that makes it a breeding ground for corruption of elected officials? I don’t think it’s just coincidental. Is it a cultural thing?

ETA: A Tammany Fire Chief is under investigation for murdering his wife.

How long had they been in elected office? After you've been in office for several elections, it can go to your head, authority-wise.

Understood. But I find it odd that St. Tammany would hit the trifecta. Three very high-profile elected offices, and all three in hot water. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Maybe it is just a coincidence…

Been part of the culture since the French colonial period.

These guys (plus Price and the fire chief) would be running Orleans Parish 60 years ago.

Yep. I have my eye on this one.

"The body of Nanette Krentel, 49, was found July 14, 2017, after fire destroyed the couple’s home. An autopsy later determined she died of a bullet wound to the head in what the coroner’s office ruled a homicide."

Husband (Fire Chief) has very suspicious body language: Video

And, yes, I forgot all about Eddie Price. That said, I thought he was a very nice guy and a terrific mayor - minus that little causeway thingy.

This isn't unique to St. Tammany. I wonder how many pols should be in jail from other parishes.

You’re missing my point. I think the high number concentrated in just one parish in a relatively short period of time is unique.

That crew was in power for a long time. Hell the most corrupt ones retired and one is actually running for office again.

It's not unique that they were corrupt at the same time, just unique that they all got caught...almost as if someone had a political ax to grind.

I would blame it on transplants from the New Orleans area, but the Strain and Reed families have been in the area for generations.

St. Tammany has a lot of the “old” families who have had power here for a long, long time. I think two things have happened- new blood in the parish, and over time the politicians get away with it for so long they get sloppy and lazy.

They are your typical small town corrupt politicians. Except, the small town grew up. The resulting access to money and power was too big for them to handle.
