Why are you hanging your hat on the attacks being related to Hindu vs Buddhists civil war that has been over for a decade?
You truly are too fricking stupid to grasp that I have not “hung my hat” on anything. I simply stated “very early on“ that violence on Ceylon seemed likely to be tied to the half-century Tamil insurgency.

And you, along with some of the other usual suspects, Have spent the last hour arguing that I said something which I did not say.

The developing facts seem to now be indicating a Muslim basis. If the perps turn out to be Muslim rather than Tamil, it will not bother me in the slightest. At some level, a terrorist is a terrorist. Sri Lanka will deal with them. The insurgency gives them significant experience at it.

I did not “assure” you of anything, you fricking moron. I said that I “suspected“ the perpetrators might be Tamil, due to the recent, half-century dispute between their minority group and the majority.

Wishful thinking.

So now you’re flipping from the civil war narrative that until a few moments ago you were clinging to with a death grip?

They suspected Islamic extremists from the start

quote:

A top police official alerted security officials in an advisory 10 days ago about a threat to churches from a radical Islamist group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath.

quote:

The letter, citing foreign intelligence officials, identified the group suspected of planning attacks as National Thowheeth Jama’ath. It named individual members of the group, which it said advocates spreading Islam by killing “nonbelievers.”

I would be willing to bet that you had no prior interest nor had done much study of the Sri Lankan civil war before today.

Most of your discussion on the matter, that I have seen so far, uses eerily similar language to the Wikipedia article on the subject.

1995. By an atheist.
This is why you and those that think like you will ALWAYS be on the WRONG side of history in the grand scale. Liberalism leads to the death of republics.
The fact you immediately went to 23 years ago to “but... muh...”.

With no evidence other than the existence of a bombing on the island of Ceylon, I suspected that the bombing was likely related to the half-century Tamil insurgency.

From that, the usual conglomeration of low-grade morons concluded that I was taking the position that Muslims good not conceivably be responsible for the bombing. I never said anything of the sort.

I have spent the last two or three hours simply explaining to you idiots that I did not make the statements you seem to attribute to me. In fact, I have demonstrated to YOU that a statement you attributed to me “in quotes” was not even remotely similar to what I actually said, by providing the actual quote.

You and your little clique are either inherently dishonest or simply too fricking stupid for words.

You would lose money.

It was certainly not a significant hobby of mine, no. But for decades I have been aware of the insurgency, the major players, and the history of the region, going back several thousand years.

The sub-continent’s history is fascinating, and both the Tamil and Ceylon play a role in that history ... though I have paid more attention further north.

My interest originated with an alt-history series (Belisarius) written by Eric Flint and David Drake. The stories were so interesting that I did a good bit of reading on the actual history of the region. A shopkeeper on the way home from my office is from Kashmir, and we often discuss Indian history.

We have morons in this country screaming that white nationalism is some massive threat. Well you don't see Southern Baptists around the world doing THIS. Nor do they hijack planes and fly them into skyscrapers.

I could go on. I do NOT want to read any more bullshite in this thread about who the bad guys are on this planet. By and large they are Radical Muslim.

In this country a large number of people of that faith have no intention of peacefully assimilating, indeed we have some in the United States Congress. They have to go, and if it takes stripping them of citizenship and kicking them out of the country, so be it.

Holy CRAP people. The Tamil have been bombing shite on Ceylon for half a century. It seemed likely to me that they might’ve been responsible for these bombings as well, given the lack of any significant history of Muslim terrorism on the island.

At no point did I assert that it could not conceivably have been Muslims. The usual clique of dimwits has spent several pages arguing that I said something which I never said. Not one of them has links to a place where I made any such statement.

It looks like I may have been wrong in thinking it might have been the Tamil, but it was not an unreasonable analysis. It was simply inconsistent with the consensus here that Muslims have a monopoly on causing all the evil in this world.

They certainly cause plenty of it, but they do not hold a monopoly.

Specifically Catholic Church’s? On religious holiday?

Only 1 religion is capable of that type of evil.

Considering islamists threatened churches, they were bombed on Easter, the police have already arrested suspects and this news has been available for hours, it seems the only reasonable suspects are the ones who threatened, and have been arrested after a shootout with police

You just cannot help yourself. You’ve just proved my point for me that you automatically attribute all evil in the world to Islam.

Barely a decade has passed since the bombing of the Mecca Masjid mosque in India by a Hindu nationalist group. There were 10,000 persons in the mosque at the time of the bombing.

Islam has no monopoly on religious atrocities.

Hank is being deliberately disingenuous.

Surely a person as educated as him never honestly believed Hindus angry at Buddhists would coordinate to attack Catholics.

I think Hank is a bit a charlatan
