The family of a 12-year-old boy is demanding an apology from Sacramento, California, police officers after a video featuring the child's arrest, which took place in April, went viral.
During the arrest, police were forced to place a spit hood on the unnamed child because he reportedly spit at officers several times.
Police restrained the 12-year-old near a local carnival after spotting him running away from a security guard.
The officers stopped the boy in an effort to aid the guard, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Vance Chandler. The guard told officers that the child was trespassing and was purportedly asking passersby to purchase things for him at a nearby Walgreens.
The boy reportedly spit in an officer's face "multiple times" during the officers' attempts to detain him. As a result, police placed a spit hood over the child's face to keep him from spitting on them.
Police are reviewing the arrest.
Black Lives Matter Sacramento shared the video to the group's Facebook page. It has been viewed over 246,000 times at the time of this writing.
During the video, a man can be heard yelling profanities at officers for their detainment of the child, which apparently incited the boy. The boy began repeating the man's phrases and demanded to be released to the custody of his parents.
"Yeah," the boy yelled, "I spit on you all. How do you like that s**t?"
As the officers forced the boy into a spit hood, the unidentified man can be heard yelling, "Look at that, look at that, police brutality!"
It is unknown at the time of this writing if authorities filed charges against the child.
Tanya Faison, the founder of Sacramento's Black Lives Matter group, said that the officers "should all be held accountable."
"Our police should know how to handle a tiny, 12-year-old boy," she added.
According to the Sacramento Bee, attorney Mark T. Harris shared a video of himself along with the child and his family and saying, "We will not tolerate ... our young people being treated in the way this young man was treated."
"We want to make sure that the greater Sacramento community, the state of California, and the world is aware of what happened to this young man, who was doing nothing more than trying to enjoy the benefits of a neighborhood carnival," he added.
Harris said the child is a "small, slight kid," under 5 feet tall and weighing less than 80 pounds.
"He's a little bitty kid," Harris said. "None of this should have come down the way it did."

Sounds to me like they know how just fine. What's the issue?

How tall do you have to be before it becomes wrong to spit in people’s faces

Take off their belt and whip the shite out of him would be a start...he wouldn't have been in this situation if that had happened previously.

Spitting is very ineffective against K9 officers.

Frick that mess. That's not even a "hood"- he can clearly see through it. If his parents whipped his arse for acting like a fool maybe he wouldn't be handcuffed at a dam fair. He'll be dead before he's 20 unless he spends 85% of that time in jail.

Idiots calling this police brutality just detract from actual cases of police brutality. They are only creating a "Boy Who Cried Wolf" scenario.
