After years of pressure from grassroots organizations, clean energy advocates, and concerned community members, Southern Company has finally decided to take a step in the right direction and close down some of the dirtiest power plants in its fleet. Southern Company deserves credit for making this decision, but there is still work to be done. The company plans to keep operating a number of coal units, including Plant Miller. [\quote]

Get ready Nation when those brown outs happen in your areas far away the switches will not be there to provide power for your ‘blue state’ needs!

Meanwhile locals will be paying exorbitant rates for AC…. Alternating Current that is.

Thanks potato you despot!

Better later when more nuclear plants can be built and other technologies have advanced. This won't help the leftist nazis with their electric vehicle push.

MISO has already announced they will not have enough generation for the Summer.

When is Duke Energy gonna chime in and say they will be short as well?

2028 is when the last one is expected to shut down. Not that it matters all of these were updated to burn coal 300% cleaner than when designed.

Money is money, the guts are heading to China who doesn’t give a flip about democrats and their agenda.

They will use them without filters and laugh at the hot North and Western states.

Nuclear is expensive as shite. Southern Company shuts down lights and everything non-essential along with everything it can in its company before throwing that switch!

Not sure about Southern Company, but I do know at one time TVA had 17 nuclear reactors planned in various locations throughout Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Ended up with only 7. 3 at Brown's Ferry, Alabama, 2 at Sequoyah, Tennessee and 2 at Watts Bar, Tennessee.

Are they going to replace them with anything cleaner that works like natural gas?

Vogtle 3 and 4 (nuke plants) have almost Bankrupt southern. They sold Gulf power to Nextera just to make up cash money because of the failed gasification plant in Mississippi. It's just sitting there empty because it's to expensive to run.

JFC. Every Southern executive should be fired tonight. No exceptions.

These multimillion dollar executives know coal, natural gas, and nuclear are what’s needed for a reliable, 24/7, electric grid. I know it. They certainly should know it too and should fight tooth and nail for it.

It’s for national security. It’s for our economy.

Period.

TVA is government owned so they can make exceptions for themselves.
