Southern Baptists going full SJW?

I’ve got to say...this is one hell of a mess IMO.
Is it biblical?
Is it over compensating?
Is it great?
Is it unknowingly supporting liberation theology?
Something is happening when you’ve got the SBC collecting 1.5 million dollars for the underprivileged, and a black “theologian” says that money was “owed”....
WHAT is going on here??

My respect for Russell Moore and the whole TGC is dwindling by the day...

Um, giving to the poor is kind of a major component of Christianity.

Yeah but it was a "black theologian"...

I'm really missing what the confusion is here.

Not sure why I expected intelligent responses from people who are aware of these groups.

You’ve got a guy saying that’s “reparations”
You’ve got a wrong definition of biblical justice being promoted.

You’ve got lyrics like this in what’s supposed to be a gospel based conference:
Broken mirrors give us all a false perception
Broken systems teaches us all false lessons
And the evil one so crafty in all of his deception
To keep us divided is to keep all of his lies protected
So you can’t see that your treated as superior
While I’m left fighting off the lie that I’m inferior
We’re the precious children born into this world where lies are taught as truth
Father, we need our minds to be renewed by You
Cause it’s a daily fight to remind myself that I am worthy
When microaggressions lie behind every other corner lurking
We been hurting for a long time, weary souls
Why’s it seem like my brothers in Christ can’t understand it though?
(I don’t know)
Oh Lord
I didn’t know what I didn’t know
Looking through my own eyes
But now I know what I didn’t know
Help me see
Help me see through your eyes
I will walk with you no matter what it takes
Keep in step with truth by the gospel of grace
Our God is a God of justice on the cross that was displayed
If we live for just us, we don’t do justice to His name
It’s like a shoulder shrug at our debt that Christ already paid
Like saying Lord we’ll keep the comfort and you can keep the change
But imagine every tribe and tongue singing God how great thou art
Then I look at my sister and say God how great is thou art
And she can look at me and proclaim the same
Because we’ve learned to stop comparing and start celebrating
That we’re all His workmanship created for amazing things
Distinctly different on purpose, equally made in the Imago Dei
We won’t be perfect ’til He returns to make it right
But how we steward what He’s given us, thats up to you and I
(let’s walk)

I mean, one guy tweeting out about reparations doesn't mean that's what they were collecting for.
No idea where those lyrics came from. I've never heard that song before, but yeah that's nonsense.
I'm not sure where you got the term "Southern Baptists" from in your OP, though. According to the conference's website, this conference was sponsored by ELRC, MLK50 Advisory Council, and The Gospel Coalition. I don't see any endorsement from the Southern Baptist Church anywhere.

The ERLC is a Southern Baptist entity.

Russell Moore and Al Mohler are two of the biggest contributors of TGC. Most of TGC is SBC.
The song came from Matt Chandler’s worship team!! How can it be?!

Just curious what denomination the OP is a part of?

Grew up SBC, but now I consider myself Presbyterian without infant baptism...so, Reformed Baptist, but there’s like 14 of those nation wide so I attend Presbyterian Church at the moment.

So your not SBC? What does it matter to you then?
I have been SBC my whole life and have no problem with this fund, nor am I affected by what some individual not connected with SBC leadership said on Twitter.
I do know that the SBC is having a tough time reaching African Americans ( Imagine that, the denomination of slavery, forbidding blacks to worship in white churches, and rampant racism even today is having trouble reaching people). The multi-cultural model of church planting isn’t really working either. Imagine that, people want to worship with people like them.
This scholarship pays for sound theological training for AA ministers so we can better reach the AA community.
Calm down snowflake, everything isn’t about some SJW move, sometimes it comes down to opening doors for more people to hear the gospel.
If your mad about a #MLK50 event then stick with the Presbyterians.

Is there video of this song? Those seem like some really clunky lyrics. I want to hear this for myself.

It’s basically verse...
I started cringing when they panned to the white girl whose lyrics are, well, very apologetic.

No, im not SBC any longer, but I’m a huge fan of SBTS and also SEBTS.
The fundraiser was great! Don’t get me wrong on that.
I don’t like the political nature of this conference. If you search ERLC on Facebook check out the distinctive approach by John Piper compared to Russell Moore and Matt Chandler.
The latter two are trying to apologize for the past while the former preaches the word. Guess which one is most powerful...

Shout out to my fellow Reformed Baptist brethren. Also, honorable mention to the baby baptizing RTS Presybys aka frozen chosen. I got love for y'all too. Who's going to T4G next week?
