I fundamentally am confused why we can't have a consensus on immigration that goes something like this

1) significant crackdown on the illegal flow of immigrants on our southern border. invest in barriers, wall, tracking technology, more patrols, etc to reduce illegal entry. A basic thing a nation does is control who comes in.

2) Immigration should be based on where the skills are needed. If jobless american workers can fill a need, they should get priority. employers need to prove that they need immigrants because of a shortage of workers, not because they can pay them less.

3) In areas of the world where it is difficult to vet immigrants on cultural beliefs and practices, a ban is warranted until the vetting system improves.

4) absolutely zero public assistance allowed unless you have worked and contributed for a decade in america.

5) asylum cannot be granted to people who can find safety in a nation closer to their homeland.

There is no reason the above 5 points shouldn't be a consensus in america. But they aren't. We have a party that is debating what to do with groups of illegals caught crossing the southern border.

Immigrants are a reliable Dem voting bloc. If they voted Republican, Nancy Pelosi would be manning a machine gun nest on the Mexican border.

Why do you continuously start threads under some presumption that liberals have any intention of engaging in any debate or policy in good faith?

Despite relentless evidence to the contrary ?

Because rational bipartisan policies don’t benefit the uniparty. Gotta frick over both opposing sides equally to keep everyone divided and voting for the Bush/Clinton/Obama’s of the world for 70 more years

I like my policy; have 1,000 open spots every year....let the illegal immigrants bid for them...highest 1,000 bids gets in

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — Mattoon Police officers have arrested a 37-year-old man on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and unlawful restraint.
Jose A. Antemate-Chagala was arrested at noon on Wednesday at the Mattoon Police Department.
The charges against him allege that while living with a girl who was fewer than 10-years-old, Antemate-Chagala molested her repeatedly over a two-month period.
The unlawful restraint charge alleges that he held a rag soaked in peroxide over the girl’s face to keep her quiet during the assault.
Antemate-Chagala was taken to the Coles County jail pending the filing of charges.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also issued a warrant for his arrest for immigration violations; according to the DHS, Antemate-Chagala is an undocumented immigrant and has previously been deported.

Nothing but "signs of whiteness" in that list.

It's just your internalized racism and white fragility talking.

If you don't have a marketable skill, and can't speak the language, stay home.

Not totally sure what you're asking for on this one. Do you want the ban against areas that don't properly vet applicants, or do you want a ban against people that have certain beliefs/practices?

If they have jihadi tendencies, it would be nice to know before giving them the keys to the castle.

Well....i still think that the "give us your tired hungry poor...huddled masses yearning to breath free" statement is noble and right and beneficial. So i don't like the qualifications mandate of #2. That being said...#1 is applicable. I think we can have a definitive means of immigration by expanding the process ( more background searchers/adjudicators ..whatever) to allow more in legally buy not have an open spigot border.

I disagree with 4 and 5 as well. Quit thinking everything is a profit and loss. If someone is in need..we should help. I would rather cut funding to an obese person with 20+ medications due to poor choices but happened to be born here than a hard working dude from guatamala that's been here for 3 yrs and has a kid get sick

# 5....same reason as #2

Not the Dems. They are having no debate at all. Let them all in and put them on welfare. Then get rid of ICE. Then invite more illegals to come on over.

Marxists want open borders with them in total control of us all,.. we will be subjects. It truly is really that simple folks.... Keep your powder dry as they have to be defeated either at the ballot box or on the battlefield.

There's probably millions upon millions of Americans whose grandparents or great-grandparents wouldn't have qualified under this rule. My grandmother came from Sicily, was poor, and didn't speak english.
