Some good news to share
Posted by anc on 4/3/20 at 8:39 am992
Like most of you, Ive been on a ton of Zoom calls and teleconferences through all of this. Colleges are feeling the pinch. Many of them had to refund room and board costs (and some tuition). Faculty and staff that have moaned about online classes for a decade were forced to make the move.
Colleges are going to have to look at cost cutting measures. The department at the top of the list at many colleges?
Inclusion and Diversity.

Is there much point in pushing inclusion and diversity if you are doing on line classes?

We all know this won't happen
At this point colleges would probably cut athletics and hard sciences before they'd kill off these worthless inclusion offices

Not really, in fact a lot of information about your race, sex, or ethnicity can be hidden online.
it is the great neutralizer.

Some of these departments are bloated with a dozen $100k jobs with people in them that could not run the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. At one large university, there is a staff of 80 whose main job is to plan events for diversity and inclusion groups. The largest attendance at these events usually is around 50-60.
College administrators have figured that out - but never had the reason to cut them back. Corona gonna help rid the real virus hurting our colleges.

I fricking love it. This cancer has impacted the core of our great nation. So much so that it has invaded the corporate world with gusto. Two years ago our VP of HR stood in front of our sales force and said by 2020 50% of our promotions will be “diverse”. Utter bull shite not to say we are going to hire and promote on merit. So unless you have a vagina, are ethnic or suck cock you have a less of a chance to getting promoted!

Let me preface by saying this pandemic is terrible and I wish it never happened.
But it's getting harder to deny there are some positives to come out of an overall negative.
-kids playing outside
-people putting their overscheduled lives on pause
-nobody is worshiping sports or consumerism right now
-and now they're cutting the sky screamers' departments
We need all the good news we can get right now!

Straight basket weaving, yes BUT BW402 "Underwater Basket Weaving" requires on campus instruction.

On the bright side, the proud tradition of having to suck your boss' cock to get promoted remains intact.

I doubt that's the case
It would be wrong to exclude them from the cuts.

The fallout of universities from all of this is going to be fascinating to watch

I love hearing this, I wonder if any articles are written about it yet.
