Kimmel makes some comments. Were they the worst ever, no. But they were dumb. Disney says “Jesus Christ jimmy what are you doing to us right now” and pulls him.

Then a week later he’s back? With what just a back door scolding? He didn’t really apologize in any way and then went in even harder to me it seemed.

So why even do all of this? Secretly boost ratings? I have to think they are smarter than that.

What was the point of all of this from Disney’s perspective? They’d probably have had less of a shite storm if they did nothing at all.

I think the only reason that Disney suspended him was to have him cool off. He was going to go nuclear on air and make it worse because he was pissed and about to throw a hissy fit on a live show. They couldn't have that, so I believe they suspended him for it.

I think his ratings were so bad they were looking for an out, But then they caved to the push back from hollywood. So now they are stuck with him for a while longer.

Not too much longer when the 2 largest syndicators in the country (along with many others) have stated they will not air Kimmel.

My guess is that Disney's plan was to pull him off air temporarily to quell the right's outrage over his comments and avoid having him make the situation worse with additional comments. But Disney probably didn't expect to catch as much backlash from the left for taking him off the air, so that's probably why they only waited a few days to bring him back because they know that right wingers weren't watching his show even before the Kirk comments.

My spitball theory is that they will let him ride out the rest of this contract. He will make the announcement that he's chosen not to proceed with the show, and they will have gotten the millstone from around their neck while allowing him a quasi-graceful exit.
