What f-ing country is this?
Admitted multiple failures by FBI and local police to act on this psycho, which would have certainly prevented this tragedy, and law abiding citizens pay the price?

Meanwhile, we think psychos are going to follow the law or just go away if certain guns are restricted? Or will they just find another way?

This is SUCH bullshite.

Yes. School system, FBI, local law enforcement all decided it was too expensive to prevent this from happening...fricking accountants

In that case, why have any laws at all?

Law enforcement occurs after the crime has occurred.

If weapons are used illegally, the limitation in reaction is to wait until the crime is committed.

Sadly, there's dead children after that moment.

People are bringing this up because he wasn’t charged with the laws he broke before this slaughter...

Did they fail?

I mean, government being unable to do that which it claims it can do is about as surprising to me as being wet is a surprise to a fish.

To me, that just amounts to planned failure whether intended or not.

If you throw a pig off a cliff and tell it to fly, it's really not the pig's fault when it splats.

Absolutely. You don’t need a gun. The police will protect you.

Acts can still be illegal while things are not

If you kill someone with a knife it’s illegal. Knives are not illegal

Sounds like a clever question. Bring it back when it's relevant.

Really?
So that when people choose to break them, they can be held to account.

He implied it is dumb to think psychopaths will follow the law, as if laws do nothing to affect actions. I think my question is relevant.

He had no priors. He didn't commit a crime before he did this. There is no legislation in place that curtails gun ownership in Florida on the basis of mental instability.

What, exactly, would you like the police/FBI to have done?

Sure! It’ll be different after we give up our rights. Then and only then will government work correctly for us.

The implication is not that laws do nothing.

The implication is that NEW laws do nothing to prevent criminals from doing things that involved the breaking half a dozen laws already on the books.

Which laws? I need someone to tell me what should have been done by the police/FBI (be careful about your response, there is other stuff in the Bill of Rights).

If guns are outlawed (no more sales or importation), it will be much more difficult to get guns. Just like it is very hard to get a hold of automatic weapons since they have been illegal to import or manufacture since 1986. To get a full auto weapon takes a lot of money and a license. I'm sure there's some on the black market, but they ain't easy to find. This kid would have never been able to find one.

It would work. Question is do we want to go that route? Pretty much the same route as Australia without the mandatory "buy back".
