Please. The top 1% of earners are lucky if they can up and quit their job. I doubt the majority would pass the original meaning of middle class.

A lot more folks would be able to join that club if they didn't spend so damn much. Even top earners have to work month to month to meet their bills.

Assets, not income, determine class.

Maybe I misread your original response to me. I read it as "wealthy" being the top 1%.

Edit: and I agree with what you're saying.

Like I said, assets and passive income are much more important than earned income when it comes to determining class.

Incorrect

I would love to be rich but quite simply i'm not even remotely close to rich. I don't own crazy things. I don't have a hottub. I don't have a pool. I have a small back yard. I drive an 05 Tundra that's paid off. Wife drives an 18K Kia that isn't paid off. That's not rich by any stretch. Just because you see income and assume Rich doesn't mean it's a reality. Rich would be those NFL guys everyone keeps talking about. Not someone making in the 100k area.

Spot on

All of it

Highlighting this to emphasize that "class" means social standing and wealth demographic before some damn fool leftist expresses outrage about "you think you're better and classier than me because you have more stuff!"

Tell that to 90% of the population that is poorer than you.

If you got an “A” in class, would you say you were an “average” student?

I don't accept A's in my household.

Just means there is a huge wagegap between those that make a lot more than me and the rest of us peons. If your going to commit class warfare vs people in the 100k range and accuse them of being rich then I'm going to correct you on the facts. Just because I earn more than 90pct of people doesn't mean I'm rich. You might want to look up the definition of rich. According to wiki I'm actually in the 15pct range and Upper Middle Class

Upper middle class[1] (15%)
Highly-educated (often with graduate degrees) professionals & managers with household incomes varying from the high 5-figure range to commonly above $100,000.

Facts be damned.

True. You also will not typically be able to build assets and gain passive income without first having a high earned income to gain and grow your assets.

Now, I currently fall into the lower upper class income bracket. At 30, I am currently on track to have over 6 million in my 401k by the time I retire. This does not include the wife's 401k and other investments we have. We have a chance to build what could potentially be a life changing amount of money for our kids (should we have them) when we pass but I'll never be in the top 1%.

How exactly are middle classes getting much of a tax break when income from $112,500 to $190,150 is going from a 28% tax rate to the highest bracket (33% or 35%)?

Do you even know how taxable income works, you pleb?

Wish I had saved when I was younger. I could probably be nearing retirement around age 50. Instead I've only been putting money back for 3 years into a 401k. At age 37---It seems inevitable that I'll work till I'm 65 at a minimum. I hope I am wrong on that.

Being middle class means you can stop working without worrying about bills

The term you are looking for is "financially independent" not middle class.

Middle class is people who are just above paycheck to paycheck. If they couldn't work for a month or two they would be fricked. They still have a small savings and retirement but are required to work to pay bills.

If you think middle class means you can retire at 30 then share your fricking secrets.

You may not be able to live like a king at 100k, although I've done it (albeit single and 20 years ago). 100k is definitely not middle class by any means

Progressive tax. While the top portion of their income will go up to 33%, the bottom 2/3 will be taxed at the lower rates.

Overall, they'd pay less

Best of both worlds. I get more money in my pocket and I can still hate Trump. Win-Win

I'm just going by traditional definitions, not by income levels relative to everyone else.
