So how does reopening our economy even work?

Is that even being discussed? We’ve gutted the economy to flatten the curve, how the hell do we get it back going? He president doesn’t just make an announcement and say ok we’re open again and it all goes back to normal. State and local governments have to give the go ahead also. Businesses will have to decide if they even can open back up financially, or if their customer base is still there. Other countries have to open back up on anything that revolves around exports.
This is an enormous frickin mess that we never should have done in the first place. But alas here we are and what’s done is done, that said how do we get the engine running again?

I'm not even thinking about the economy returning to normal right now
It's all about weathering the storm.
For no damn reason

As soon as the 5 minute test is readily available, everyone <60 with no symptoms ( or living with the same) will go back to work. When you can test, you can quickly limit the exposure.

Prez says it's okay to go back to work.
Businesses want to make money and so they open their doors.
Tells all employees if you don't show up for work you're fired.
Easy-peasy Japenesy.
Unless State's impose martial law, like real martial law...not this lockdown suggestion bullshite..otherwise Federalism and frick their "lockdown" on businesses, because that's venturing on Eminent Domain.
The US govt. says I can open my doors, you don't want me to because Trump...frick you, pay me.

The economy will bounce back, but it won’t be an immediate rebound. So strap in.

We Cannot keep this Economy shut down for another Month. Not going to happen.

even WHEN reopening begins, most businesses that have been able to survive will keep their cards (cash) so close to the vest to wait and see what happens that it will be a LOOOONGGG slow trickle

People complain about Millennials but that generation has really taken it hard economically. Studies show leaving college during a recession permanently harms your lifetime career earnings.
Now, Millennials are in their prime earning years and being asked to sacrifice for the greater good. And so far, largely are.
And people still bitch and moan about them. I think other generations would have done it as well, I just think it is worth pointing out.

That’s assuming demand remained throughout this and that there is still a market for their products and services for when they do open the doors back.

Don’t try to think. You’ll hurt your brain. It’s not used to doing it.

The world is conducting an economic experiment that it has never conducted before.
It's so bad that I can't even make a reasonable guess as to how bad it is.
It's going to be bad in ways nobody's even thinking about right now.

Small businesses are taking a major hit, some will survive some will fail. I think +90% economy will recover in 12-18 months if we don't have major recurring breakouts of this virus. Small business owners that don't initially survive this shutdown are still going to have the knowledge and experience to open businesses again. I believe many businesses will be treated quite generously by federal and state governments to help them reopen their businesses, particularly if their businesses show a history of financial viability.

I don't want to get people in more of a panic than they already are but I think for people born after the end of WW2 this will be the biggest event of our lives.

Millennials are currently the glue that’s keeping this country together.
