Considering there is no tariff actually in place, I'm calling bullshite on your OP.

You fricking Lefties will lie through your goddamn teeth to push your bullshite. This is why you have no credibility, suck huge donkey balls, and are an abject detriment to this country and it's people.

You said you ordered a dozen at a cost of 400,000-600,000. So we say you got 12 at 500,000 to average it out, that's a 6 million dollar order and 11,000 was added. Is that about right?

$11 K per machine, and this lot averaged about 430-450K. Equipment dealers son't make a lot on new machines. A 10% margin is really good.

So, 11K out of 44K. Anybody here want to take a 25% hit on your gross margin and try to just absorb that?

So you either had a 2% cost adder per equipment, or if that 11k is for the entire order than that is a .2% adder which is very insignificant. I also think it is worth it to pay .2 - 2% additional cost to buy American.

FWIW, Chinese products are shite. There is a reason most of the projects we are on have particular instruction that materials can not come from China. The welds are shitty, and there is no recourse for poor quality of materials such as too much or not enough of a certain element contained within the melt of that product. Then when you get to alloys its even more restrictive.

These machines won't be built for another 2-5 months. You think future deliveries are not already pricing in the tariff?

I would say that is unwise business practice if you are subtracting 11k out of your gross margin and not including it as part of the sales cost.

You are full of shite.

No tariff has even passed.

If your bill just went up $11k it is because they think you are a moron and will pay it.

he said the folks he places the orders with warned him to expect that surcharge

obviously that'd be based on anticipating the tariff

Your not going to take the 25% hit. You'll pass part of that on to the customer. I call BS on your supplier passing on 100% of the suspected 25% tariff that isn't even applied right now and not knowing which items will be charged.

I talked to my supplier last night and he said that China thinks steel beams will be the only thing that fall under the tariff.

Well only 0.66% or so of our steel comes from China, which is about 1% of what we use in domestic steel. Yet, this whole tariff conversation keeps coming back to China when the tariff will have little impact on China.
