Its probably a foregone conclusion Shreveport will have a black democrat mayor. This guy has serious chops.

quote:
ADRIAN PERKINS was born in the Cedar Grove neighborhood of Shreveport. The grandson of a sharecropper and the youngest of three boys raised by a single mother, he understands both the struggles that Shreveport's families face as well as their ability to succeed against all odds. After 9/11, Adrian felt compelled to join the Army. He accepted a nomination to West Point, where he was the first African-American cadet elected class president in school history, and subsequently fought multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He achieved the rank of Captain and Company Commander. One of his proudest moments—a feat he attributes to the grace of God—was ensuring that all members of his platoon returned home safe. After serving, Adrian attended Harvard Law School and was elected its student body president. While a law student, he focused his scholarship on criminal justice reform and the importance of innovation in small and mid-sized cities.
I thought this was going to be a sarcastic thread when I first started reading it.
I don't know if his military accomplishments will translate to being an honest politician but I'd be willling to give him a shot if I lived there.

No way that Shreveport would actually elect an impressive candidate...

Could you please convince him to move to Baton Rouge and run for mayor?

His resume is definitely impressive but this video is troubling. Why the secrecy if he is capable of leading Shreveport?

1. As a general rule: Don't trust anything or anyone from Harvard Law School.
2. Be careful how you interpret attendance at the USMA. It's a breeding ground for cronyism, and it starts with the ability to get the necessary endorsements to go.
3. I've watched a lot of people go through these types of pipelines: they get into them via connections, they get through them via connections, then get put in places to succeed, and they move along as part of a greater plan where the cronyism and connections are all put to use.
4. If his Army time was as impressive as it appears from that write-up, he would have been below the zone or perhaps double below the zone depending on year group, to make Major, and perhaps sent through SAMS, and put on a trajectory for guaranteed COL, some very lofty assignments and so on. To leave that, he would have had some connections guaranteeing him admission to Harvard Law and a pathway set up beyond that time.
5. As good as the GI Bill is, it doesn't pay for Harvard Law School.
6. The last thing I would do is view his timeline as one where a gifted dude just progressed and moved along from one period of stellar public service to another. The fact he's now in politics, as a Democrat, combined with the above should tell you he's not what he appears to be on the surface.
Sorry to be all 'dark cloud' but I've seen this many times.
