And desensitizes people to violent death?

If no, how would that be any different than restricting the 2A?

Hollywood makes billions off showing gun violence.

I say no.

But , if political hacks ever do it, they would make a loophole for "art".. and all of Hollywood would remain untouched.

No idea why TV and Hollywood gets a pass when it comes to gun violence.

They banned cigarette advertising on TV and any movie that shows someone smoking gets all kinds of shite over it. Pull a gun and slaughter a bunch of people in a movie and its all good.

Kids and teens watch a lot of violent movies and play a lot of violent video games. Has a hell of a lot more to do with gun violence in real life than guns ever will.

Hollywood should remove all guns, violence, and sexual harassment from movies and tv. Hollywood could put their money where their mouths are by doing this

Thoughts like this sound good in theory because you operate under the assumption of what you consider "glorifies violence". Remember, there are people in this country who think that enforcing laws that are currently on the books, or the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, Old Glory itself, etc. is oppressive. I don't think it's a reach to assume that if a restriction on the 1A were ever enacted, it would quickly transform to cover issues that you would have never considered--all under the guise of "glorifying violence".

As Milton Friedman said (roughly) who would you trust to make those decisions?

Because the motion picture association is a bunch of prudes. Killing and violence we can get by with PG-13. But you show one nipple...

I've seen articles that the #metoo movement may drive entertainment toward a more prudish and puritan direction.

Yes they should. That would be the moral thing to do.

Unfortunately Hollywood is big business and less concerned about morality than the bottom line. Sex, violence, and in particular violent sex sells, and generates the long green.

I never understood this. Killing is fine, but nudity or sex isn't. what kind of f'ed up world do we live in.

Nat Hentoff
quote:

Nathan Irving "Nat" Hentoff (June 10, 1925 – January 7, 2017) was an American historian, novelist, jazz and country music critic, and syndicated columnist for United Media. Hentoff was a columnist for The Village Voice from 1958 to 2009.[1] Following his departure from The Village Voice, Hentoff became a senior fellow at the Cato institute, continued writing his music column for The Wall Street Journal, which published his works until his death. He often wrote on First Amendment issues, vigorously defending the freedom of the press.
quote:

While at one time a long-time supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union, Hentoff became a vocal critic of the organization in 1999 for its advocacy of government-enforced university and workplace speech codes.[30] He served on the board of advisors for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, another civil liberties group.[31] Hentoff's book Free Speech for Me—But Not for Thee outlines his views on free speech and excoriates those whom he feels favor censorship "in any form.
Hentoff was about as pro-free speech as you can get. He even opposed libel laws.

Good point.

Libs scream about gun control being the answer, but banning all gun violence in movies, music, books and video games would have a much bigger impact than yet another emotion driven gun-grab would.

No chance in hell that ever happens.

I don’t go to the movies, but I am so damned jacked up about the new “Death Wish” movie opening next month! I used to love Charles Bronson movies, and the Dirty Harry series.

The last movie I paid to see was “Finding Nemo,” when my daughter was a little kid. I am going to break my 14 year streak to see “Death Wish.”
