Should We Blockade Korea?

Just watching “Thirteen Days” about the Cuban Missile crisis. Even though we have sanctions against North Korea, there have been reports of ships entering their ports to deliver coal or whatever, paid in cash. Isn’t it a good possibility that Trump might do the same thing?

From who? You know the point of those blockades were to keep Russians and their weaponry out? They share a land border with China and they’re cutting ties with them. I’m dying to know who the hell could be supplying them, because if it’s the Russians, I doubt the Chinese would put up with that shite.

Haven’t they already done that to themselves..

So we declared war on Cuba in 1962? Don't remember that part.

This situation is completely different than the missile crisis in 1962. We were stopping the Soviets from bringing missiles in, we weren't putting into effect a full scale blockade like the British in WWI.
What would be the point of this blockade?

They share a border with China. They could get a lot of goods from them.
However, a blockade would severally hurt them.

It was an extremely delicate and high risk situation. It was referred to by the administration as a "quarantine" rather than a blockade to avoid the language of war. Ships not carrying missiles or nuclear warheads would be allowed to pass through, thus it wasn't a true blockade but it very nearly did lead to hostilities.

That's why they called it a "quarantine." They used this phase to circumvent Congress.

Aren’t we technically still at war with NK anyways?

There is no way to block China from getting things in an out of N. Korea.

I would not be surprised at all if Trump tightened the rope on Kim. Probably call it strict enforcement of sanctions or something. But it is likely the best option short of an outright military strike.

How do you blockade a hermit state?
Posted on 11/6/17 at 8:14 pm to Tigertracks
Sure, just as soon as my kid finishes his unaccompanied tour.

Technically, it was a police action.
quote:From Wiki.
President Harry S. Truman declared the war a “police action” because he never asked Congress to pass an official declaration of war.

Didn’t you say you were prompted to start this thread because of Thirteen days?
You must have went to the bathroom in that big meeting scene where they discussed blockade, dismissed it as an act of war, and case back as quarantine
