Should the NSA domestic surveillance program be curtailed?
Posted by DavidTheGnome on 12/5/18 at 6:00 pm93
Snowden (true American patriot imo) exposed just how bad it’s got. Pushed through after 9/11 for muh safety and security but I question how much it’s really helped to prevent. And at the same time we’ve done the most un-American thing imaginable and traded freedom and liberty for safety. Entrusting our privacy to big government because that will somehow make us safe. We should have faith in it because it has the backing of the FISA court to ensure it’s never absused.
This one can’t be blamed on the libs, it’s everybodys damned fault and no one (expect named Paul perhaps) has had the guts to say anything about it. What should we do?

I’m a woman.
The Federal government scares me more than terrorism.
I’d feel less creeped out by the government if the entire NSA was eliminated.

I always laugh at meetings when everyone opens their laptops and I see the stickers covering all of their webcams.

NSA is already prevented from spying on Americans without approval from FISC. And even in those cases the FBI takes the lead.
The one exception to this is unmasking. If you are caught talking to a terrorist in Yemen they can listen in on that conversation without a warrant. But the terrorist must be physically located overseas (or you must be overseas). But even in that case, your name is "masked" (meaning NSA doesn't know who you are and cannot know unless they unmask it).
All Snowden showed was that they collected metadata (who calls who) without warrants. But even this program had approval from the FISC. Everything NSA does has to get approved by FISC.
Now we can question the validity of secret courts (I don't much like them myself), but they are legal and were approved by Congress. Another problem is unscrupulous people providing fake info to the court (as happened in 2016).

Are you familiar with the term "general warrant"?

Nobody can complain, we all have invited this into our lives and signed away our rights to privacy. If you use a smart phone, any social media, any smart home devices etc you have agreed to give it up.

Fellas the whole terrorist act/FISC court is just a placebo to make you feel good. We have been spying on our own citizens for decades.
The whole issue of allied countries not wanting Trump to release information because it would taint them, where the hell do you think that idea to use them came from, Brennan???? They have been doing this for 50 years. It was illegal then, so we set up the listening posts, trained our five eyes allies, let them collect and then "give" to us, that way it was them "spying" on our citizens, not us.
We could vote unanimously to abolish NSA tomorrow and a clandestine organization named the ZSA or BTU would be formed for protection against our enemies, dont cha know.
I an all for it, they do far more good than we will ever know, sure there are some rogues that have gone way too far this time, but if they are truly punished (not given full pension and a book deal) it will be enough to make the next cabal think twice.

If you haven't done anything wrong then you have nothing to be afraid of.
So tell us, what have you done, Dave?

Yes. It needs a major review top to bottom and findings reported to the American people.
I can dream.

IMO he isn't bc he went scorched earth and released everything. Had he been more selective then yeah I'd agree with you.
