In the wake of new voting laws requiring various processes and methods of identification be utilized, I can’t help but come back to the issue that is NEVER openly discussed: The idea that simply being a living American adult allows you to vote. Should anyone able to present an ID at the polls be allowed this privilege? Are we missing the bigger issue?

Many accuse these laws of attempting to suppress the vote, and my inner response in some ways is “maybe we should”. Not on the basis of race or creed, but on the basis of understanding of and stake in the game.

I genuinely don’t believe that voting souls be a guaranteed right, and it clearly was never intended to be by the founders. Now admittedly they had flawed and in some reprehensible ideas about who should be allowed to vote, but the premise that everyone had a right to would have been entirely foreign to them.

I don’t know what the criteria should be, but I don’t believe Susan who is a junior studying Russian literature and doesn’t know how many people are on the Supreme Court or how many senators each state has probably shouldn’t be voting.

Is it a right or responsibility?

If it's a right, then ignorance can't be a discriminator.

If it's a responsibility then it should.

Yes every legitimate American citizen in the US should be allowed to vote

But with that comes rules you have to follow which of course doesn't happen in many states

Cue Hank, who even though he agrees with you still can’t resist an attempt at being condescending so he’ll make a reference to “that pesky constitution”.

So should a free, adult American citizen be able to vote for the people running their own government? Is that really a question?

We have plenty of rights with qualifiers.

Yes, once that citizen provides proof that he or she is a free adult American citizen.

I see people every day who are too stupid to be trusted with a pet, much less the right to vote

Why does it have to be an adult?

I use to think so but I've changed my mind over the past 20 years. When the Dim party can simply promise government handouts to tens of millions of Americans as an incentive to vote Dim I ask you how can conservatives defeat that?

Damn, dude's got his own heralds.

As to the OP, yes, but rules should be set so all have skin in the game.

You have to show proficiency and be licensed to operate a motor vehicle...a 1,000+ lb object that can be used as a deadly weapon.

You have to be licensed to operate a firearm (you should have to show proficiency as well)...an object that fires small projectiles at a speed that can cause serious injury or death.

You have to show identification to purchase toxic substances containing nicotine and alcohol.

Hell fricking no. Should have to take a test, not accepting any $ from the government and can only vote on laws pertaining to property if you are a owner of property.

No one on the dole should be allowed to vote.
