Leaving politics out for a moment. I saw a story of a man in a wheel chair that suffers from seizures and smokes pot at night for relief. He had a computer job and lost his job. His company fired him because he failed a urine test for pot. So there is plenty wrong with the States pot laws v. employment.
What is the fix to this?

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is facing a barrage of criticism from both parties for ending a policy that gave states the flexibility to allow sales of recreational marijuana.
Republicans, primarily from states that have legalized marijuana, joined Democrats in slamming the decision and vowing to take action to pressure Sessions to reverse course.
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) took to the Senate floor to assert that Sessions had told him before his confirmation as attorney general that he didn’t plan to try to reverse his state’s policies legalizing marijuana.
"I would like to know from the attorney general what has changed,” Gardner said. “What has changed the president's mind? Why is Donald Trump thinking differently than what he promised the people of Colorado?”
The Obama administration’s Justice Department announced in 2013 that it would not sue to block states from legalizing marijuana. A memo authored by then-Deputy Attorney General James Cole ordered U.S. attorneys to give lower prioritization to prosecuting marijuana-related cases.
That policy once appeared likely to stand under Trump, who said on the 2016 campaign trail that he would not seek to halt recreational marijuana sales in states that legalized it.
“I am a states person. I think it should be up to the states,” he said.

Congress could easily solve this by ending the federal prohibition on marijuana.

The Republicans need to pass a bill to decriminalize marijuana on the federal level and leave up to states to decide. Win, win all the way around

My main man Dana Rohrabacher with the kill shot...
quote:
“The attorney general of the United States has just delivered an extravagant holiday gift to the drug cartels,” Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) said in a blistering statement. “By attacking the will of the American people, who overwhelmingly favor marijuana legalization, Jeff Sessions has shown a preference for allowing all commerce in marijuana to take place in the black market, which will inevitably bring the spike in violence he mistakenly attributes to marijuana itself.”

Things will likely remain that way too, even if it were legalized at the federal level. Private companies can still dictate their own terms of employment.
As far as the Sessions thing, optics are very bad, but Congress is putting on another dog and pony show here. They could change the godamn law if they wanted to, but then they'd lose those precious lobby dollars.

I have hemochromatosis and cannot drink alcohol. I have a graduate degree and make a very nice living and have a promising future in my industry.
I smoke / consume high grade marijuana 3 to 4 times a week after work. There are millions of Americans like me.

It was Comcast in case you needed another reason to hate them and it was in Colorado before it was legal recreationally so he had a prescription. Courts said as long it was schedule 1 (No medical use) then they were within rights to do it.

Will employers still have a right to drug and alcohol test? What about jobs that the employee gets a company vehicle/service van and it is a insurance requirement (or so they are told) to pass background drug alcohol tests?

Are they kidding?
They should do some reading.
Congress has truly abdicated its authority, always looking for some alphabet agency to make the rules these days.
They should look in the mirror before they bitch about anyone else.

Just leave it alone. It's fine the way it is.

quote:If Sessions intent is to go after MJ as Obama did prior to the 2012 elections, it would be a major mistake.
I also think it is a States rights issue and Sessions doing this is a mistake.
Regardless, if lawmakers don't like it, then they can do their jobs and pass better law.

Has marijuana been prescribed by a Physician as a treatment for the seizures? What chemical in marijuana is effective in treating seizures? Are there any other legal drugs that are effective in treating seizures?
It sounds like this person is using his seizures as an excuse to get high.

Congress needs to fix this.

Yes.
quote:
What chemical in marijuana is effective in treating seizures?
Cannabidiol CBD (not the THC that gets you high)
quote:
Are there any other legal drugs that are effective in treating seizures?
Nothing has been found that is anywhere NEAR effective as CBD has been.

It’s hilarious for law makers to cry about the Atty gen enforcing the laws they wrote.
Bonus: They cried for years that Garner and Lynch weren’t enforcing federal laws. You can’t have it both ways.
