Hawaii has always had the highest COLA for Fedgov. Alaska was #2.

Hawaii is about as expensive as rural Alaska. This is pretty huge.

ETA: I wouldn't have been able to live in rural Alaska with this kind of COLA cut, not without my wife also working.

Good Lord. Everything in Hawaii was high three years ago last time I was there. I don’t want to know what it is after this inflation.

I have relatives who used to live out there. They had a townhouse in a rural neighborhood that was ~1,000 sq/ft and was 750k when they bought it. Didn’t even have A/C. They had to get an split unit installed in the living room.
