Have any of y’all read Screwtape Letters in a while? There has been a lot said of ‘1984’ lately but I think this quote hits even closer to the mark.

It's been about 10 years. I need to read it again and refresh myself with some C.S. Lewis.

C.S. Lewis sounds like a prophet. But it’s mainly because Europe went through in the mid 1900s what we’re going through now.

There is no real place called hell or heaven (only in our minds alas, so I wouldn't take Screwtape Letters too seriously). But, C. S. Lewis knows what he's talking about here. As long as people believe the problem or solution is outside of themselves, they'll continue to have problems.
Ok, I'll go back to playing my unenlightened self on these here boards.

I recommend “The Abolition of Man.”

Pretty soon the mob will come for Lewis and Tolkien. Probably already have.

I also recommend the Abolition of Man as well and for fiction, the Space Trilogy.

“That Hideous Strength” could be a great read based on today’s society. I may pull that out.

Why do atheist feel so compelled to insert their views on this into discussions with, at best, parenthetical relevance?
I wouldn’t start a conversation with a Muslim by saying Mohammed was a fraud, or with a Buddhist by saying fat man statues are a weak belief system.
I don’t begrudge the belief. I just don’t understand the Pavlovian urge to make it an issue.

An atheist, a cross fitter and a vegan walked into a bar.
Everyone knew because they told everyone.

That's an excellent quote that is perfect for this board and any like it.
We are turning into Italy or Greece where the masses of unemployed and otherwise sit around at coffee shops talking about how so and so populist is going to fix everything.
At the end of the day, get off the internet, stop with the cable news, and do something positive with yourself and for society. Volunteering for a cause you believe in is a great starting point.

It just goes to show how the men who came before us put so much more thought and effort into studying ideas and understanding the soul of man. We fall extremely short.
We have the hubris of modernity where we assume that just because we have iPhones and air conditioning that we are the smartest people to ever live. Not even close to being true. Imagine what these men who went before us would’ve done with the access to knowledge and communication of the present time.

There's one that he wrote about his life story and when he found Christ. I don't remember what it was called, maybe surprised by joy? But the first time I read it, I was in tears, because he realized there was a God before he knew about Jesus. So he lived in fear for a long time, terrified of one day meeting Him. And when he found out there was a Savior, his weight was lifted. Amazing story.

Fun fact. A couple years ago we had a military exercise in England and me and some buddies ate lunch at the Eagle and Child pub where Lewis and Tolkien used to meet in Oxford and have ideological discussions.

They had less distractions and were able to think for themselves more
