San Francisco mayor getting tired of the homeless mess

After years of complaints, San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell vowed on Friday to become more aggressive in clearing the city’s sidewalks of homeless encampments.
Farrell told the San Francisco Chronicle: “Enough is enough. We have offered services time and again and gotten many off the street, but there is a resistant population that remains, and their tents have to go.”
The city has faced a growing homeless epidemic, and with that has come streets filled with human feces, dirty syringes, and trash. Farrell says “the tents are a public safety hazard for the people living in them, and for the residents of San Francisco.”
The mayor has been on a mission of sorts, after hiring ten workers earlier this year whose sole task is to clear the streets of needles and syringes in response to residents’ complaints.
As of 2016, San Francisco was estimated to have the second-highest homeless population in the Unites States, next to New York City.

If only we could figure out what it is about our culture that draws them here....
I know! We should create a government bureaucracy to pick up the trash instead of fixing the problem that causes the trash in the first place!
Frickin' liberals.

Why not make some sort of camp for them? And have them more or less run it. The homeless can derive pride from the camp, making sure law and order is upheld and all new entrants are thoroughly disinfected

Maybe he should look at the cost of living there and the consequences of being cozy with silicon valley and what they do to your housing costs. "Services" don't overcome the cost of living. The resistant population though is entirely derivative of the culture in that city.

Work will set them free.

Sam Francisco is a perfect representation of the Democratic Party. Rich elites and the poors that they don’t want on their streets but have to pretend to like and help for their votes.
And I’m sure the sanctuary city status isn’t helping the homeless population either.

What right does he have to tell those people where they can and can't live?

Hard to clean up overnight what has built up due to about 30-40 years of city policy.
Not that I don’t appreciate the moment of clarity by the mayor, but I don’t see this sticking because the behavior of everyone involved (homeless, activists, city politicians, etc) is too engrained.
You’d need a Giuliani type willing to deal with it AND a voting public which gives them a mandate. And the latter is a problem for multiple reasons including insanity and voter fraud.

The difference in the city when I traveled there recently vs. say 10-15 years ago is unbelievable. I used to stand in the park and look across the bay at Oakland and think to myself that it looked like Gotham City compared to the bright lights and clean look of San Fran. Now it looks like the shadow from across the bay is creeping over, and the areas that you could once walk in the city without a second thought are not the same.
