If you can get to the antenna by flying a gunship lowlevel, below trees, whatever, and damage the radar antenna with a 30MM Cannon from 5K feet away direct line of fire, easy kill after that

Have they ever heard of cruise missiles? We don't need to send planes to their country, and we would not send planes to their country. We will hit them with cruisers.
Who is in charge of their military? Apparently they have not done their homework. They won't need TORs for us.

I don’t know how good the the indigenous Iranian air defense systems are. But our block IV Tomahawks wouldn’t perform well against a modern air defense system.

That doesn’t make it ineffective though. The Russians rely on iterative design to reduce risk, and minimize development costs. So rather than create new platforms, they’ll just update old ones.

I did not call it ineffective. But it is soviet crap. Even soviet era crap can drop an airliner (of course). Hell, you can easily destroy a slow moving zamboni with a ww2 era bazooka.

That does not mean the bazooka is cutting edge tech...

And where do you get the idea that US cruise missile tech is ineffective against "modern air defenses"???

1) Iran does not have "modern air defense systems.... they use soviet era stripped down crap

2) Did you watch the results of the first Persian Gulf War with Iraq?? Tomahawk cruise missiles faired pretty damn well against soviet era stripped down crap.

Hasn’t Canada already paid a high enough price?

Didn't they function quite well in Syria a year or two ago?? Even if not completely 100%??

Probably one of the few areas in military hardware that the Russians hold parity with the US in, their AA stuff is no joke.

The bomb damage assessment photos we released after the Syrian attack.

The photos don’t show enough damage, given the number of missiles launched.

We also made the implausible claim of a 100% hit rate. Which feels a little bit like a Baghdad Bob comment.

This suggests the Russian claims about intercepting most of the missiles is probably more true than not.

That intercept claim is plausible, on its face, because the TLAM is a much older weapons system which has never been updated to deal with modern electronic warfare systems, or modern air defense systems in general. And it hasn’t been updated to deal with those threats, because it just hasn’t been necessary. We’ve been bombing Stone Age countries for the last twenty years.

The Russians for their part have always made air defense systems a critical R&D priority, and its one of the few areas where they’ve always had a technical advantage. And that’s no condemnation of our engineers, it reflects a strategic Russian need. Which we do not share. Their electronic warfare capabilities are especially sophisticated.

The Navy also pushed hard for a TLAM replacement in public comments that summer.
