In all the money being tossed around for recovery they need to set aside about a billion for development of true high speed internet throughout the United States regardless of where you live. It's now an essential service, especially in times of crisis like we're experiencing now, with folks advised to stay home and to work from home if possible. Crappy satellite internet is not going to get it done.

Would create some infrastructure projects as well. I don't hate it just don't know how feasible it is

Starlink (and others) will be up sooner than any govt bloat can manage. Let Elon pay for it.

They’ve been giving grants to rural internet/telephone companies for years through the RUS

As well as broadband works these days, we pretty much already have it. Maybe something could be done to make it a bit less expensive.
I haven't found very many places where my Verizon Broadband won't work. Middle of the desert, in the mountains, I've only found a couple of places where it doesn't work. It's pretty damn fast too.

That would benefit Republicans, so nope.

Yep. A part of the New Deal all these rural up-by-their-own-bootstrappers don't seem to mind.

I’m really hoping starlink works as projected

Basically, current satellite internet has a lot of latency because in order for one satellite to cover the entire rotation of earth, the single satellite has to be very far away from earth.

Starlink plan is to have several satellites (like 40,000 I think) but closer to earth in order to cover the entire world during rotation. Being closer to earth will remove the latency.

Low orbit mini-sats and hundreds of them. Low ping and faster than 5G.

Real fiber-based high speed internet needs to be a public utility.

We had that in very rural MN in about 2004 - 2005 and we have it in rural IA now. Both from those grants.
