Late night shows are nothing but advertisements for movies, books, etc. They've never been worth viewing dating back to Carson et al. Its always been a sales pitch and the unwitting dupes lap it up.

Would have continued making money after that. The execs still pulled it.

Some of the best comedians got their start on late night. Watch Watters World from last night, Blazing Saddles and others movies are being called offensive now.

They are also gunning old James Bond movies because James dismissed his lady to do business by slapping her on the arse.

Watched late night comedy shows for decades. But haven't watched one since the '16 election. Doubt I am alone in this.

I havent watched since prior to it. To much obama love that was clearly not the same they gave Bush.

Advertisers are the ones at fault here. They either agree with no Right message and/or cowards about it.

Funny thing is that the 9:30/10pm to midnight TV slot is the one I'm looking for comic relief on TV to help calm my mind from the day before going to bed. The rest of my day is pretty established already.

I don't think they drift to the right often but they are absolutely near the center

Early on, people realized radio and TV had massive potential for plugs.

But the process was a bit less hard sell. Carson would not only have current celebs plugging movies or TV shows, but also mix in guests w/nothing to plug who were just fun to listen to, like Jack Benny or Buddy Hackett et al.

Leno changed this. He streamlined couch time to current celebs plugging their stuff, whom he would occasionally interrupt to work in written jokes his staff had prepared. He did not conduct a conversation, like Carson did.

Would have lost major advertisers

They still tried to milk it without her, for money, and it bombed

The Roseanne show without Roseanne bombed? Shocker.

Greg Gutfeld was hilarious last night. The whole show is posted on Fox now.

Jimmy Fallon is pretty neutral/mostly stays away from politics.

Conan clearly does not like Trump, but doesn't creep in too much to the jokes.

Not a shocker at all, but they tried because, maybe money

It's amazing to watch you insinuate that studio execs are more motivated by politics than money

How does Seth Myers have a show but Norm McDonald doesn’t?

What Fox News needs to do is start their own late night show, every weeknight, at 11:30 pm et. Prove that itll work.

Possibly his best show ever. It was a classic.
