In Nancy Pelosi's words "armageddon"

but alas a suburban soccer mom (who used to vote gop) is still going to vote dem in november because trump said mean things.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. retail sales rose more than expected in July as households boosted purchases of motor vehicles and clothing, suggesting the economy remained strong early in the third quarter.

Other data on Wednesday showed manufacturing output rising steadily last month and worker productivity growing at its fastest pace in more than three years in the second quarter, though a drop in labor costs pointed to moderate wage inflation.

“The economy appears to be very well-positioned to continue to grow,” said Jim Baird, chief investment officer at Plante Moran Financial Advisors in Kalamazoo, Michigan. “The persistently optimistic consumer sector is doing its part to keep the growth engine going, and retailers are benefiting.”

Want to see how much consumer debt has changed over this time. Hope people aren’t overspending.

Coming from one of these sectors, I can tell you that Q4 2016 - present is night and day compared to any point in the 5-6 previous years.

Foot traffic is up 15-30% this year. Sales up 8-12% every month. No big changes from corporate, no big changes in product - people just have money burning a hole in their pocket and are looking to spend.

Which is why I’m concerned. Consumer confidence is great. But left unchecked, I don’t want to end up where we were ten years ago.

It’s too late baw. The debt chickens are coming home to roost eventually. But it could still be a long ways off. I thought I read something recently that savings had ticked up which is encouraging. Not sure about per capita debt though.

every nation is built in debt. China has public debt equal to 400% of gdp, almost all of it toxic, secured by worthless real estate developments and infrastructure that was not needed, built to keep people employed during the financial crisis. Japan has federal government debt 2x ours as percentage of gdp, etc, etc, etc
