I'm looking for the story I just saw on Fox Business.

The retail stores are already hiring for seasonal jobs. They are giving perks like paid vacation and stock options...etc etc.

I can't seem to find a story on it... I keep getting "Help wanted" returns!

Part-time workers already have all the time off they need.

First link on my DuckDuckGo search:

LINK

That article linked to a CNBC article that had the lead story (your OP title) simply listed as a byline: "As the U.S. labor market tightens, retailers are having to offer incentives and higher wages to lure top talent."

I don't see anything about vacations or stock options in the CNBC article I linked, but it does say this:

quote:

All temporary workers hired by Target after this Sunday will start with an hourly wage of $12, and also receive benefits like a 10 percent discount on Target.com and 20 percent off wellness merchandise like fruits, vegetables and workout gear, the company said in a press release. Target also will set aside $2 million for rewards to seasonal workers through its worker appreciation program.

The hiring announcement by Target follows similar ones from Macy's and Kohl's. Macy's said earlier this week that it plans to bring on about 80,000 seasonal workers, in line with its initial hiring plans for 2017. Kohl's kicked off its hiring "earlier than ever before" in July.

Depending on what Target's "worker appreciation program" is, they could very well be offering things not directly mentioned in the article.

Obamacare has done more harm than what people realize. Companies are now forced to choose between hiring people part time, or not hiring at all.

PPACA certainly didn't help, though I agree that Amazon and Walmart.com have played the single largest role.

Some retailers (Best Buy, as an example) are starting to figure out a new model that will keep a robust retail labor force viable.

The report on Fox mentioned Kohls and others. But they are having a hard time getting employees.

This economy IS GREAT for the USA worker

From the article, it looks like they're simply using financial incentives to entice more workers rather than radically re-structuring their work force (like what Best Buy has done). Not a bad thing, of course, but it doesn't address the structural problems to these retailers presented by Amazon and Walmart.com.

I don't think any sane person would deny that.

Good. The market is recognizing a labor shortage and firms are responding by offering increased benefits of their own free will, without the need for regulations that will cripple the economy come the next downturn. This is how it’s suppose to work.

You could put them 1a and 1b.

Yes, its called more part time employees and less full time employees. I worked for one of these named companies for 10+ years. When obamacare went in to effect, it was an instant killing of full time spots in the company because of the costs associated with them. I dont blame the company one bit.
