A Tennessee General Assembly subcommittee rejected a resolution on Wednesday that would have condemned white nationalism and neo-Nazism.

“I’m in utter disbelief at what just happened,” said State Rep. John Ray Clemmons, a Democrat who sponsored the resolution, according to the Tennessean. “I didn’t think there was anything controversial about this resolution.”

The resolution declined by the House State Government Subcommittee would have asked law enforcement agencies to regard white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups as “domestic terrorist organizations.”

The resolution also called on the House to “strongly denounce and oppose the totalitarian impulses, violent terrorism, xenophobic biases, and bigoted ideologies that are promoted” by the groups.

Maybe this could be the reason it was shot down...I dunno. These guys don't really raise hell when they show and don't go around wrecking shite. Nothing that would come close to being label as a domestic terrorist. I haven't read the resolution but maybe it was way too broad and reaching? I personally don't like the left trying to square up "white nationalist" with being a racist org. either.

“I would love to try to pass a resolution denouncing white nationalists and neo-Nazis, but if I can’t even get a second in a subcommittee, it evidences this Republican supermajority’s refusal to denounce these hate organizations, for what reason I cannot begin to imagine," he said.

The only purpose of such a thing would be to use it as meaningless political fodder in the future to say that someone refused to vote for it and inaccurately label that person as unwilling to denounce hatred

Such a waste of time by a government official. No one supports these extremist there is no reason to waste time and make a big deal out of condemning something basically no one agrees with.

Since when has it become illegal to have an opinion? If you can’t legislate some morality, you can’t legislate any. Being a bigot is a lot of things, but it is definitely not illegal.

Sure he didn't.

In a time when the word Nazi is being thrown around like candy at a parade.......yeah. I'm gonna say nope.

So, the resolution opposed itself. That's fun.

This person apparently has a poor imagination and ain't bright.

Gotta love totalitarian liberals trying to pretend they don't know they're totalitarian.

That was clever and funny. Does anyone really think those fat fricks are going to do anything other than march and draw attention? They certainly arent domestic terrorists and there is no damn reason to waste time in legislatures "condemning" them.

The Southern Baptist Convention passed one of those resolutions last year. A pastor friend of mine was in attendance. He said it was strictly political since it condemned "racism of all kinds," but the only groups it mentioned by name were "white nationalists and the alt-right." At first it stalled in committee, but he said a huge group of millennial pastors got it back on track and it passed in their business session.

Meanwhile the Nation of Islam has 50,000 members in the USA and its leader Louis Farrakhan meets publicly with Barack Obama and black members of congress and no fricks were given.
