It's weird, Stipe didn't really melt at all compared to Mike Mills.
Stipe basically said "I don't want to give it any more attention than it's already getting, so I'm just issuing a statement that I do not approve"

This was around the time my sister saw them in Lafayette. To this day, she says it was hands down the worst concert experience she's ever had. Said Stipe bitched at and insulted the audience all night and then cut the performance short.

I don't think I've ever met anyone that was an actual REM fan. Not talking someone that likes one of their songs or something, but someone that would actually buy their music or go to a concert

Yeah I went to one of their concerts in 1989. It was the Green album. Stand was a big song I believe. I was in 6th grade and my mom took me, my older brother, and his friends. She also took me to see Guns n Roses, Poison, Metallica, AC/DC, Motley Cru, Rolling Stones, and The Beach Boys so cant complain.
