I spent much of my youth getting in fights with black people. Boys as well as girls. It wasn’t all that odd to see black girls fight and some of the girls could flat throw down.

We had mini race wars all the time. Out on the play ground, there were foot races, games of chance, yo mama challenges and at times, raw fist fights. Pretty common actually. For some reason I had what seemed like an inordinate amount of fights. Boys and girls too.

These girls were tough. They handled their differences with force. Nothing was off limits either- with scratching and hair pulling very common.
I managed to hold my own against girls. I mostly just played defense As I was usually stronger than them and could hold them off. Also, culturally, I was brought up to respect girls and just couldn’t bring myself to punch one. That changed over the years as I adapted to my environment and realized that these girls didn’t much care about the respect that I was offering. They wanted respect of a different kind. I admit that I probably threw some defensive jabs.

When fighting the boys it usually started out as a slap fight challenge. Sort of a skill challenge if you will. Sometimes it would escalate though. When it did, I found that they were very good fighters.
They had solid boxing skills and they were not afraid to take a punch; something that is often overlooked in fighting. A person that can take a punch can be a dangerous person.

I was more prone to wrestle than box but the black guys avoided wresting. This was back when boxing was big and Ali was the champ. They all wanted to be like Ali. Or sugar ray Leonard. Some of the guys actually tried that foot shuffle thing to try to confuse the opponent. I think it was just showing off.
I guess all tolled, I lost more than I won but there were a few that I won. I was undefeated against white people fwiw.

I remember this though. After I beat up this one guy named Nathan, it all stopped. They no longer messed with me. I earned their respect. Life changed but the race wars were more limited to speed and yo mama challenges. I grew to become friends with many of them.

So I see all this race war talk I know some of y’all are looking forward to the day but I Gotta admit that I find it exhausting. I just can’t bring myself to getting in a fight with black people. They can fight good and I’m too old. Shoot, I’m not sure I can even beat up a white guy. I’ve limited my sparring to verbal only for the past 35 years. I’m pretty sure the black guys I used to fight kept it up. Their skills are still sharp.

Sorry guys. I can coach maybe. I can give advice. Work on your defensive boxing skills. Block a punch. Don’t windmill. They’ll just sidestep that shite. They can probably wrestle better now days since the mma got so popular.

Oh, and remember what I said about the girls. They aren’t there to watch or cheer. Oh no! They’re gonna get their hands dirty too! The white women better be ready!

They black guys work out a lot so get strong. Not health club strong- street strong or farm strong. Like do a lot of pushups and sit-ups- exercises That don’t require expensive equipment. Push a lawnmower for 2 hours a day. Shovel for an hour. Rake a pile of wet leaves 3 times a day. That kind of shite.

I just don’t have the energy. I’ve done my time with these folks. Race wars are for young people.
I’m with you in spirit though. Have fun with it but stay committed. The future of our country depends on your ability to settle this score.
