Yes, but are alcohol sales and consumption regulated by the gov't?

It is baffling that proponents of the war on drugs use hypotheticals even though we have a viable case study with prohibition. The parallels are almost identical, yet there is still push back.
Prohibition was either good or bad for alcohol. It is the same for any controlled mind altering substance.
We have this as part of our history yet people refuse to acknowledge it. It’s frustrating to say the least.

Go search for some data to back up your argument and then I'll address your points.

How long ago was that?
What's the leading cause of traffic fatalities in 2018?

Maybe the USA can learn something from Portugal, where all drugs were decriminalized in 2001? Compared to Portugal, drug overdose deaths per million in neighboring Spain are 2.5X as high, 3.5X as high in the EU, 10X as high in the UK and 31X as high in the USA.

What they fail to recognize is that it's a public safety issue. The "do what you want with your own body" is correct; however, the problems arise when people "doing what they want to their own bodies" are high and causing chaos and havoc on those around them as a result of the drugs, thus infringing on the rights and well being of others. Anyone who says this is not the case is either ignorant by lack of any experience or willfully so, and I bet it's the latter
This is why I like the conversation about the legalization of drugs. I think it's one of the few topics left where people can talk intelligently about the underlying political philosophies of both sides. Everything else has become so stratified that the arguments don't exist in the same reality.
In terms of heroin I think it should be decriminalized but I don't think you should be able to go to a local dispensary and purchase it. It leads to a shift in the culture that people aren't taking into account. Alcohol is viewed as more innocuous than other substances because it's on the shelves of any gas station you walk into. Heroin shouldn't be that easily available.

Who's morals? Yours? Did we stop living in a free country there chief what makes your morals better than mine?

When your morals require you to steal from others you lose the moral battle.

Including killing innocents in auto crashes when high. Crapping in streets and on your neighborhood sidewalk and throwing himself down on interstates creating chaos. Blocking your entry and exit to you work, home and restaurants. Gagging themselves to throw up @ your table and pizzing within feet of your children and splashing you and your family. All of which the drug induced and left wing psycho's are doing currently with their bodies.

No. With a death rate under 1% that won't ever happen.

Ok but when that free adult ruins his life....Tax payers shouldn’t have to pay for his poor choices.
Legalize it but remove the safety nets.

Those are two independent issues. Both should happen but not because of one another.

And/or others lives, see drunk drivers.
Just last week an admitted weed abuser rammed his vehicle into a house 15 feet off the ground. Lucky neither the driver or homeowner weren't hurt. Well, the doper probably hurt himself when he opened the door and fell 15 ft to the ground.

Do you think that isolated incident is a reason for marijuana to remain banned by the federal government?

I agree, but it’s still cheaper than jail, plus border searches, plus extra police. The war on drugs is a lose lose lose proposition. Even if we put those drug users in housing complexes and provide clean needles. It’s just gonna cost a lot less. And we can’t afford what we are now spending.

we are paying for it now. jails cost money. they also get free medical care in those jails. Significantly cheaper to pay for them go to rehab.
You can keep spitting this it costs us money drivel all you want it doesn't make you right now matter how much you want it to.
