How could a group of Marines storming CIA headquarters go un-noticed?

It didn't go unnoticed. There were reports of people living in the area saying they heard steady air traffic in the area for about 30 minutes.

One series of reports say the Marines didn't land, just circled and delivered a warning essentially.

Other reports say Marines did confiscate equipment. Who knows.

I'm not sure what its purpose is but the more I see of it the more it appears to be a tool to further control people instead of protecting them. It seems to help bad guys more than good guys.

i think it may have started off honestly enough. the premise sounds good. on the other hand, it's open for exploitation big time. seems like that's what has happened.

How does it control anyone? It is peer to peer and operates outside of all government. Now, it could crash and does not do well without electricity but I am less sure on the control premise.

Making people more dependent on power and connectivity seems to be steps in the wrong direction, IMO. I guess at a very high level it might have had good intent.

Do you think the government should have control of the internet? I don't think this operates outside the government as much as you think it does.

also, fleecing people out of their money to fund programs is a form of control.

I do not disagree in many ways as I think I would thrive in a powerless environment. But, nothing about the world makes me think we are going to go caveman anytime soon. Also, to be clear, it takes power to create more and send anything but the best storage is offline and needs no power most of the time. Further, when the mining is done it will require far less power than stupid banks need to keep their lights on.

I do not believe the government should control anything. Also, who is it fleecing? There is not some centralized source making anyone do anything, and that is the point.

The value of bitcoin only serves those who sell it. The value is driven up by people buying in. That value is meaningless unless you sell it. It is a great mechanism to have unsuspecting folks buy in so someone else can sell off and make tons of money leaving the other folks holding the bag of worthless bitcoins. When a value is based on speculation and nothing of actual value, that is a tell tale sign it is a tool for taking money as much or more than it is for making money. This is not a currency replacement. It is an electronic stock.

If the original intent was just to provide a secure way to make transactions off the books. That is great. I fully support such efforts but I think this bitcoin is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Bitcoin certainly has made me a lot of money. I buy and sell the tracking stock, and once options get introduced, I'll look at these, but they will obviously be expensive.

I'm more focused as it regards this thread on civil liberty, and the chance some might actually care about it and the Constitution.

But I'm just a cigar smoking, pinkie ring wearing, bitcoin speculating guy frm Iowa.

I get what you are saying with respect to a bubble, but there is a finite amount of mining to be done. Once that happens it should hit some equilibrium and then we have an anti-inflationary currency that can circumvent lots of bull shite. If it does not work then something else better will hopefully emerge.

If it does not work, a massive amount of cash got transferred to a black hole. Who gets it? China being so active in this gives me a clue.

It is scary as hell when you realize bitcoin and litecoin are backed by nothing of value!

But then it is an even scarier realization that the USA dollar is also backed by nothing of value any more!.

And even more scary when you realize that as many dollars can be printed as they want... Unlike bitcoin and litecoin!

These are important points to me. Also, why does it have to be China getting it all?

The $ is backed by our military end of story...

Bit coin is a ponzi. A good trader however can still make money in this market but anyone who thinks this is a store of wealth and goes long for a long term trade is going to get their face ripped off
