Putting aside the federal government, state governments are also bloated with gov't jobs

New York for a long time has a bloated state workforce, but why does a state like Louisiana with a meager population have such a big state workforce? No wonder you can't lower taxes there, too many people in their cushy gov't jobs are siphoning off tax revenue and of course firing a state employee is damn near impossible without a law suit or having to hurdle through red tape.

The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.

Definitely the truth. Need to cut the gov't payroll by 1/3 easily.

At least half. A good majority of government jobs can be contracted out resulting in better service. It is very difficult to get fired from many government jobs and many job appointments are based on skin color and not individual merit. Many government jobs are poorly managed and are a nuisance to the public.

Needs to be cut much more than one-third.

And they don’t get taxed on their pensions.

They are parasites like welfare recipients.

I prefer the contractor option.

Not if we are paying contractors double than what what an employee makes.
Don’t get me wrong contractors work in some segments of government, but if I have to pay a contractor 100k for a job that pays only 40k, we are not saving money. And usually that 60k in overhead is going to some politically connected company.

The state politicians need to hand out jobs to win votes bottom line.

Government jobs at every level are bloated....gotta love those that don't work but spend our tax $$

I'm OK with that. I like making money, and if these "conservatives" are foolish enough to continue giving it to me, I'm just fine with that.

Like DOTD does? They has over a thousand employees but not a single one actually builds a road or bridge and many, MANY of their projects end up taking far longer and are more expensive than the original projections. Hell, just look at how long it took them to finish off 10 after the split or the Vinton welcome center (still under construction after... what? 3 years? 4?)

yep - pretty sure there are a lot more federal contractors than federal employees.

It’s crazy how much has changed in 40 years. When I was a young man government jobs in general were considered less desirable than private sector employment. Today government jobs be it state or federal are better than most private sector jobs when factoring in all the Holidays and benefits. Almost all government jobs have a retirement savings plan and pension.

After every election many democrat campaign workers are put on the state payroll. The Union activists wives and family members are made arse't trainees in many offices. Teamsters union wives or older children go into the Transportation Dept. SEIU and AFL-CIO union members go into the Dept. of Education as arse't curriculum supervisors in-training, etc. They make phone calls and campaign for Democrats while working for the state in the next election and give $20 every two weeks paycheck to the Union/Dem. campaign fund.

Yep, pretty much exactly like that. If Trump is eager to waste money, I might as well be one of the people collecting it.

Bid it out and you'll get a fair price. Sometimes it pays yo pay more because the job is done right and bonds protect the work. Star employees d ont give a shite and do half arse work that has to be redone which raises the iverall cost of the work...throw in that state depts benefits long term to those employees, and it runs just as much as using private contractors.
