Putin has decided to stop pretending he’s not the dictator and just embrace it.

He is KGB appointed supreme leader. That is common knowledge and why he has been in power for like 15 years

The article I read says that this move makes it easier for him to implement changes that will mean less power for his successor as President.

True? Who knows.

But if it IS true, is it possible that Putin is the unicorn of the political world ... an actual “benevolent dictator?”

Probably not
quote:

The surprise announcement came after Putin proposed constitutional amendments that would strengthen the powers of the prime minister and parliament at the expense of the presidency. Handing parliament more power at the expense of presidential authority could signal a power shift that has been long speculated about in Russia.

Putin's critics have suggested that he is considering various scenarios to retain his grip on control after 2024, including the option of becoming prime minister with extended powers. Similarly, in 2008 Putin swapped places with the prime minister to circumvent the constitutional provision banning the same person from serving two consecutive terms.

There has been good dictators in the past but the power slowly gets sucked out and the dictator thinks they are greatest thing ever in every aspect of leadership instead of delegating they micromanage. That slowly allows for everything to fall apart and the dictator continues to consolidate power. Starve the beast. Break it all down blame someone else and convince the stupid populace that you can fix it.

Well that's something, isn't it?

I think this may have been a smart move by Putin. I guess that's a good way to clean out corruption. Just restructure the entire government in one fell swoop.

This will be interesting to follow. Russia's version of "strings cut, clowns out."

Eh... so in Russia, they don't have as many rights as in the U.S.

Who knows Putin's motivation in this but you can bet it benefits Putin in the end...

The funny thing will be the left will be screaming about his "stealing power" while the left in this country is making shite up in an attempt to steal power...

I am curious as to what 20th or 21st century leaders you would consider to have been truly benevolent dictators.

Tito is often mentioned, as is Peron, but both had significant human rights issues.

I am not sure one has existed since Gaius Julius Caesar.

The article also states that he is term limited as President according to their constitution. And this restructuring is an effort to give him more power if he assumes a lower state roll. Essentially, he's shifting power to wherever he goes next. Dictator's going to dictate.

Why don't we let this play out before we rush to judgement?

Putin is giving more power to Parliament which means more power to the Russian people.

He's also proposing amendments where the Praz, PM, judges, and all heads is Fed agencies cannot hold dial citizenships.

He's also proposing economic and educational changes to give Russians better access to higher education in an effort to increase the birthrate in Russia.
