President Trump intends to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria

President Trump intends to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria as soon as possible following the defeat of the Islamic State, senators said Tuesday following a classified briefing.
“I think the administration's plans are to complete the efforts to defeat ISIS and to not be involved,” Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told reporters.
That update, following a classified briefing to the Senate by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, suggests that Trump’s determination to withdraw has hardened despite lobbying by French President Emmanuel Macron and other proponents of a longer commitment in the war-torn country. But a pair of top Republican senators said that the decision will enhance Russian influence in the country and set the stage for a conflict between Israel and Iran.
“Syria is going to be an armed camp of Hezbollah — Iranian military people — that will present a threat to Israel unlike any time in the last 20 or 30 years,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters. “Syria will fall into the hands of the Russians, the Iranians, [and Syrian President Bashar] Assad, which will be a nightmare for Israel and the region as a whole.”
Corker concurred, but blamed the outcome on former President Barack Obama’s acceptance of Russia as a power-broker in a 2013 deal that was supposed to result in the elimination of Assad’s chemical weapons stockpiles. “Once that decision was made, candidly, the die was cast as far as the future of Syria went,” he said.
All true statements.

They pretty much disappeared overnight didn’t they. Just a year and change ago they were cruising around in our humvees taking over cities. Wonder where they fled to bc no doubt they’ll regroup again. Cycle of terrorism it appears.
Trump is playing his cards right IMO relative to the withdrawal. We don’t need to get wrapped up in their issues.

Oh frick off Lindsey. This a-hole would have a full military presence in every fricking country if he could.
Israel is perfectly capable of handling Syria without our troops if they so choose.

Then join the IDF if you're so concerned about Israel you warmongering queen. It would be a great day for South Carolina if that fruit moved to the country about which he cares most.

Well, he's right. But there is nothing we can do about it at this point with out direct conflict with Iran and Russia.
This should have been handle in 2012.

So Obama leaves Iraq with the full support of the American people = bad
Trump leaves Syria with mixed support = good?

Literal Cocksucker Lindsey Graham sending good, strong young men to die to pad his own pockets via lobbyists.
May he rot in hell.

If it was a classified briefing, why are these Senators going straight to the newspaper with commentary regarding interpretations of the content of the classified briefing?

And our President is still fulfilling campaign promises.

The US will withdraw forces from Syria when Israel tells us we can. It wouldn't be kosher otherwise. First was Iraq, then Syria, and next will be Iran. Oh and don't forget Lebanon. They have vowed to destroy that country in the next war.
Btw, Israel has said the missile strikes were ineffective and accomplished little.

ISWYDT! Well played!

So we’re leaving...but only after we defeat ISIS. Well, no shite. That’s sort of a dishonest way of saying that we aren’t going anywhere for a while.

I support a withdrawal, but Israel, and this is their problem, not ours, doesn’t have a play here.
- The air defense system will probably neutralize the IAF in a war.
- The border defenses, which are similar to the ones in Lebanon, a defense in depth, will make punching through the Golan hugely expensive.
- The Syrian Arab Army has a wealth of combat experience, and good low level leadership. They fight well. The IDF didn’t perform well in the July War, and is largely inexperienced at this point.
- In the event of war, Hezbollah would fire their rocket arsenal into Israel, causing havoc.
