Popovich more optimistic about country's outlook after feedback from political comments

quote:
"I do read everything, and I try to respond," he said. "It takes time because there's a lot of letters. But the only ones I don't respond to are the ones that are so courageous in their negativity that there's no address, just comments. That's hard to respond to. But there are people who have responded and disagreed, and say, 'Why?' And it's erudite and intelligible. [And I'm like], 'Yeah, you've got a point.' Those people deserve to be written back. So, I try. I probably won't get them all, but I try."
In September, Popovich discussed Trump's comments on sports and protests, calling "our country an embarrassment to the world."
Then in October, Popovich called Trump a "soulless coward" for lying about ex-presidents not calling the families of fallen soldiers.
Asked whether he has received negative backlash from fans regarding his political stances, Popovich said jokingly, "Oh, no, no, no. Every single person has agreed with everything I've said. I get flowers. I get trinkets and gifts."
"Just as you would expect: A little bit of both, right? A lot of both," he explained.
"Some responses make you wonder what country you live in, and other responses make you very hopeful. But there's a lot more hopeful than, 'My gosh, how did this person come up with this?' So overall, it renews my feeling that something can be done because there are enough people willing to listen and feel and compromise."

I need to hear Jason Garrett's stance on abortion.
I need to hear Bill Belicheck's stance on immigration.
I need to hear Jim Harbaugh's stance on trade.
I need to hear Steve Kerr's stance on tax cuts.
Wait... no fricking I don't, because they are coaches of sports teams. shut the frick up and coach.

Just draw up some X's and O's, and save your timeouts. That's all we need you for. Thanks.

Greg Popovich has done more for his country than 95% of the people writing to him negatively.

, so dumb. 9 times out of 10 they're being asked about their opinions, so they answer. Idk about your career, but politics come up on a regular basis in my line of work - almost always unprovoked.
Pop has an opinion. It's a dumb one, but that's fine. No one makes you click on a thread titled "Popovich more optimistic about country's outlook after feedback from political comments" just to chime in about how you don't need to hear Popovich talk about politics.

You & I are probably the only two people on the board that know this.

Such a weird thing to post in a thread that made it very clear it was about what Pop thinks.
It's like some of you want to be miserable. I don't get it.

You're right, he's a better person than most people and his vote should count more than others.

this comment reminds me of those people who bitch about ESPN while they voluntarily watch ESPN

He would be much more influential if he'd stay quiet and focus on his craft and then let later generations dive into his personal beliefs, which is what made him so successful.

Goddammit, Pop, just figure out a way to get Kawhi healthy and beat the fricking Warriors. That's all we care about from you in this town.
