I keep hearing that the reason thugs are bred are because of their surroundings.

I call bullshite. Shitholes are a direct correlation to the residents of said shithole.

The reason I was thinking this was because I was driving in NBR earlier and I got depressed because it’s such a waste of infrastructure and housing.

No, not true. People are the product of how they react in face of situations (specifically negative ones). Will they adapt and learn, thus making themselves better? Or will it be the opposite reaction?

I won't go that far but they were clearly doing better in many ways prior to forced integration. It destroyed their business communities.

This comment seems a little racist bud. To think someone was better off when they were being discriminated against is foolish.

What black people are you talking about?

I live in the delta area in se ark and the black people I know are working people with work ethic like me.

There are worthless blood suckers, white and black, here but we good ones get along fine.

Some folks need to just look in a mirror to find what their problem is.Don't paint with such a broad brush..

It’s not quite this simple.

Do you understand the mental make up a person would have to have to overcome some of the bad shite that’s in our society? If a person is born into a situation where the parents are complete wastes of space. They don’t take care of basic needs. Don’t bond with the kid. Constantly yell at, slap, etc the kid. Constantly push the kid aside for selfish reasons. What do you think is the likelihood of that kid turning out ok? It is incredibly difficult to overcome that existence when you’ve never been taught the skills needed to do so.

It's some of both, but mainly surroundings are a product of the people. The intelligent and/or strong-willed will overcome adversity. The weak and unintelligent will fall victim to their environment. Most people in poverty are below average, and below average people create poverty. It's a downward spiral that only average to above average people can escape. That's why spending more money on below average students doesn't improve their situation.

A bunch of below average people are going to create below average surroundings, but even some above average people will get sucked in by societal pressure. Just look at black people accusing other blacks of "acting white" by trying to educate themselves. It takes a majority of above average people to change the environment, but they are usually smart enough to just move away, further lowering the average in that area.

Look at neighborhoods that used to be nice. When a bunch of below average people move in, the neighborhood turns to shite. The good neighborhood doesn't elevate the people moving in; those people bring the neighborhood down.

It is that simple though. I understand that everyone faces differing degrees of challenges. But regardless of how difficult the challenges are, a person determines their future by how they react to it. Furthermore, in your situation in which a person is seemingly helpless and can’t do anything, what are we to expect of that individual? Should we give them everything because they had a bad upbringing? What about others like them? Or maybe, just maybe, we should try and push for them to be self reliant?

Thomas Sowell says the same thing. Although he refers to the time, not the segregation. He said the time before LBJ's welfare society saw blacks getting married and then having children with the actual dad staying and raising them. Blacks took jobs instead of welfare.
Drug use and crime rates were very low.

This experiment was carried out in the late 80's at a mid-sized commodity brokerage.

We are born with a blank slate. Children learn through observation and imitation. Children exposed to a loving and nurturing environment usually witness respect, empathy, sympathy and appropriate behavior. These children are giving rules and boundaries. They will have a good moral compass and will have a positive effect in society. Children exposed to neglect and abuse usually witness violence, disrespect, and incompassionate behavior. They are no rules or boundaries. They have no positive influence to teach them that what they've witnessed or how they behaved is inappropriate, so they believe it's normal behavior. These children lack a moral compass and are destined for a life of crime. Children are always watching and learning even when we think they are not paying attention. They soak up everything and imitate everything they see and hear. Children are 100% a product of their environment.
