The Defense Department has decided not to move forward with three border-barrier projects in California and Arizona, indicating that the estimated $2.5 billion cost of the 20 miles of planned construction would be too high. Funding for the projects — three 30-foot-high barriers on the U.S.–Mexico border — was originally allocated from a counter-drug initiative, which the Pentagon approved pending final analysis of cost projections. That analysis found that the cost would be prohibitive, according to a Monday court filing in Washington, D.C.

I'm shocked Yahoo news would lie like this

Obama holdovers. Anybody with half a brain knows damn well that importing MILLIONS of virtually unemployable folk with a ton of physical and mental problems is a matter of National Security.

Pretty rich watching the pentagon get a frugal with their spending. Perhaps they should be audited and we can see where the other $747.5B is going...

More concerned with the Afghanistan/Pakistan border than our own.

We live in a fricked up country.
The idiots have no trouble handing out foreign aid and paying for illegal scum.

This is excellent news for those who look forward to the End of the USA.

Such an inaccurate article. In other words, fake news. How about the truth:
Military Times Article
Three additional. The entire contract didn't get cancelled.
And here's the money shot:
The 20 miles didn't cost 2.5 Billion, rather the entire fricking project had that much budgeted.
Oh yeah, then there's the ADDITIONAL 3.6 BILLION MORE that the pentagon recently approved.

Three proposed sections of border wall for Arizona are on hold, according to a Monday federal court filing, because they’re going to cost more than the Defense Department planned on spending.
The Army Corps of Engineers “has determined that there are insufficient contract savings to undertake the the three additional” projects, totaling 20 miles of construction on the U.S.-Mexico border, that Defense Secretary Mark Esper originally approved on Aug. 26, per court documents.
Three additional. The entire contract didn't get cancelled.

The filing is part of three ongoing lawsuits over using $2.5 billion in DoD counter-drug funding on border projects.
The Supreme Court lifted a freeze on that spending, handed down by a lower court, in July. But as the suit is ongoing, the Pentagon must file updates to its plans in federal court.
Back in August, the Corps of Engineers estimated it would be able to build that additional 20 miles of wall after crunching the numbers and finding “lower-than-expected” contract costs, meaning more money freed up for more construction.
But the final totals didn’t come back that way, and so two planned segments in Yuma and one in Tuscon are now on the back burner.
And here's the money shot:
quote:
That $2.5 billion is meant to build more than 100 miles of border barriers through California, Arizona and New Mexico.

Oh yeah, then there's the ADDITIONAL 3.6 BILLION MORE that the pentagon recently approved.

In September, Defense Secretary Mark Esper approved the use of $3.6 billion more to build or reinforce 11 more sections of wall.

That's still insane.
Yes, I want it built and I want it now. There is no way it should cost that much however.

Land mines are cheap and effective.

If DOD says it's a waste of money, you can be sure it's a waste of money.

They'd build it for Israel, though.
