What's the point of this?

Why, though? No one can seem to explain in what way this would benefit the US, or do anything whatsoever beyond piss off the Chinese. Taiwan doesn't want her needlessly stirring up shite either. She isn't, and inherently cannot, do anything of significance in Taipei.
I don't understand why anyone would give her credit for a very expensive vacation and political photo-op.
It would be a visit of high significance, and could be the beginning of the end of the two chinas farce.
If China does nothing, then you start to see us increasing relations with ROC, as well as other nations doing the same, until just says they are recognizing ROC as an independent nation.
If China does nothing, they are weakened on the world stage significantly.

Of course Pelosi and our government have coordinated all of this with China, but I'm not seeing where this benefits China in their propaganda. Like with Hillary, we'll have to wait until the other shoe drops.

Pure political theater.
She has to make China look like the boogie man just like Russia.
They are in bed with both.

China doesn’t worry about their population finding out anything.
Posted on 8/1/22 at 11:21 am to ronricks
Yep. If anything China is just working in concert with our establishment to drum up drama to keep our sheeple distracted, since the Ukraine/Russia war is losing interest. China helps us create drama, and we probably help China do some shite on the downlow.
How do we know? Because our politicians are cowardly as hell. They locked down DC for months because unarmed rioters rioted. They compared Jan 6th to the thousands of people who died on 9/11. If they thought China was serious about blowing them up, there's no way in hell any of them would venture anywhere close to Taiwan.

I mean in this case China sort is the Boogie Man, unlike Russia which is largely irrelevant.

What gives you that impression? There is a 0.0% chance we abandon 'One China'. No one involved wants that.

Why would an old woman flying to Taipei and taking a picture do those things? Taiwan is already fully integrated with the world economy. Besides, the trend globally is away from recognizing the ROC, not towards it. Taiwan itself does not want an end to One China, or the current status quo of their relationship with the PRC.

How so? No one anywhere took their threat to mean they were going to shoot down Pelosi's plane.
IMO, you are ascribing FAR too much importance to a photo-op.

Didn't Newt visit Taiwan a long time ago? Why didn't this start that process then?

How can we increase our relations more?

No, no they really are not weakened at all...

Why?
The US has no formal diplomatic ties to Taipei and hasn't since 1979.
The only US politician of note to visit that I am aware of was Newt in the 90s, and he was a different party than the President so it wasn't seen as quite as big of a deal.
Pelosi visiting could seen as a de facto endorsement by the Executive Branch. That would certainly be a "big deal" on the World stage.

Bitch has so many inside trades money would probably rain down if her plane blew up

We've had no formal diplomatic ties with them since 1979.
If we have formal diplomatic ties with them then that would be a pretty big increase, wouldn't it?

Lol at you thinking this administration is going to do anything similar to what you are suggesting...
Pelosi is on another tax payer junket and trying to score some points in the U.S. by being all tough on China...

I do not think they are. But since no one of the same party as the sitting President has done this, it feels like a toe being dipped in the water.
It could be nothing at all. And it certainly won't be under Biden that anything else of significance happens.
I've just always hated the One China policy.

Whatever ends up happening, both the Chinese and American peoples can be assured their government-controlled medias will lie to them about it.

I'll give it to Nancy, I hate her with every fiber of my being, but she is doing what I've kinda wanted a US politician to do for a long time.
Say "frick this" to the absolute farce and watch the Chinese do absolutely nothing about it.
This is exactly why she is pulling this stunt. You've got some moronic Republicans chanting, "Go Nancy GO!" in support of her stand against China. No need to bow down to China but what purpose does her trip serve in the first place? Hook, line, and sinker, baws.

Not true, we reestablished official relations with Taipei in 2018.

It really wouldn't. It won't be Nixon going to China, no matter how badly the press wants it to be. That is simply because she isn't actually doing anything, at all. She is just flying there. It isn't material.
We are unequivocally not going to recognize the ROC as independent or as the government of China. Without that, Pelosi going is meaningless political theater.

I see the point you're making...
But, these two things are not remotely the same.
