And all these tariffs will undoubtedly lead to higher costs paid by consumers everywhere and the reduction in trade could hinder economic growth.

They already basically don’t allow American made cars to be exported to Europe. That’s the point. This is a negotiating tactic to strong arm the EU into allowing better access to the auto market for American car manufacturers in exchange for not levying tariffs on German automakers. Next, Trump will likely offer some kind of sweetheart deal to English of Japanese car manufacturers to make the EU want to come to the table to avoid being left out.

England is not the same as the EU. They’re still technically part of it for the next calendar year, but even while a member, they were special and had their own rules for a lot of things. I have been to multiple trips to continental Europe through Greece, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, etc and never once saw a single vehicle made by GM, Ford, Peterbuilt, Chrystler, Dodge, etc.

Europe owes us about half of their yearly GDP for us allowing them to have literally every nice thing they have.
