Our local (Duluth, MN) hospital is so overwhelmed that they just laid off 500 employees

Mrs. Zwin is, at this moment, working a cashier line at Target. She is a "casual" speech therapist at one of the two local hospitals. She has been told there will no calls for her to come in for the next 4 weeks.

Duluth is a fairly major medical location for upper Minnesota. Construction is underway on a $1 billion expansion of our two hospital complexes.

They have shut down all elective and non-critical care to maintain readiness for the wave of COVID zombies.

So far, our 7 county area has 19 cases.

Not 19 IC, or even hospitalized, patients.

19 positive tests.

19.

But the peak is coming! In 14 days...or 14 days after that...or 14 days after that. Just to be safe, we should put society on hold for the remainder of the year and perhaps to the point we can be assured that there is no risk of death (from any causes).

Meh. I'm not whinging about her job. She took it up because it sounded fun and she didn't want to sit around the house.

My issue is actually with the completely screwed up way this is all playing out.

DARPA did a study a few years back, they created teams of experts, and non experts, and asked them to create intelligence estimates, or predictions.

The non experts did a better job of predicting the outcome of complex events.

While they had less specific knowledge, they had broader knowledge, they understood how the larger system worked, and that was far more important. Indeed, too much specific knowledge could actually be a handicap.

The predictions of massive death tolls don’t make sense. We aren’t seeing enough cases, and the cases aren’t deadly enough.

We have collectively as a society lost our fricking minds over this. Sadly, no idea how this ends either. We've got entire states shutting down for a month with 10 hospitalizations...

The virus is real. The response is the scam. Most of the msm and global corporate power brokers want the upstart middle class knocked down a few pegs.

Yes, but in 6 weeks, their could be 38.

Tell Andrew Cuomo to send all his overflow to Duluth.

Reminds me of the hurricane and weather threads on the OT. The local non-professionals always nail the projections, and wrath, while the media types screw the pooch.

The expansion of Essentia to that extent was preposterous to begin with - especially after the somewhat recently built 1st street clinic. Believe me, admin knows it. They are trying to use any excuse possible to save face (and $$$) just as they were prior to this whole Covid-19 situation.

Hmmm...perhaps local knowledge does matter.
