Oregon Passes Nation's First Bicycle Tax

So wait, they're a liberal save the planet state and they want taxes which make it more expensive to purchase something that helps offset global warming? They really are as dumb as they look.

The second quote I listed is money. They cheered a 10 cent a gallon gasoline tax but are now howling about their precious bikes being taxed.

if you read the article, many of the "save the planet" people oppose the tax for this very reason

Next up will be the joggers/runners since it's unfair that people can use roads and sidewalks to run. 25% tax on all running shoes sounds fair.

Eh, small price to pay if the money goes to maintaining bike paths and trails.
I pay the same every year for a fishing license. What's the difference? Because it's called a license and not a fishing tax?
My road bike was nearly $2k. $15 is the price of a couple tubes.

Wait until they start taxing Prius' and other fuel efficient electric hybrids because they aren't paying enough gas tax. You know it's coming... Gas tax revenue will decrease as cars get more fuel efficient

I see nothing wrong with this. If bikers are going to be "sharing" the road with me and have to follow the same traffic laws, then they should pay a tax like i do to put a car on that road.
I think bikes should be on the side walk or on their own paths which taxes like this could pay for. Cycle riders should be on their own safe path, and not on the roads with cars and trucks.
At least Motorcycles have speed as an offensive weapon against accidents. Cycles do nothing but hold up traffic.

Politicians aren't trying to save the planet for the sake of saving it, they're all in for saving the planet if they can line their pockets while doing so. Big difference.

I don't know if they passed it, but Oregon was one of the states looking at a distance excise tax instead of a gallon excise tax.

Lots of people own two cars, or a car and a motorcycle. If there are that many people using bikes and improvements are made to the roads for bike use then I don't see a problem.
