Among many other incredibly useless things. I almost wish a state would go ahead and pass something like this so we can get it up to SCOTUS while the numbers are in favor of people who support the Constitution.

A proposal by two Oregon lawmakers to require permits for all gunowners is generating buzz online and among Republicans at the Capitol, even before it’s scheduled to be introduced at the Legislature on Monday.

The sweeping legislation would also require people to undergo background checks before purchasing or sharing ammunition and would limit ammunition purchases to 20 rounds within a 30-day period, although people could purchase and use unlimited ammunition at shooting ranges. It would ban magazines that hold more than five rounds of ammunition. Additionally, Senate Bill 501 would require people to securely store their guns and report the loss or theft of a firearm to law enforcement within 24 hours.

Hell, it takes 500 to 1000 rounds to break a gun in properly. 200 to 250 would be the absolute minimum.

A lot of hypocrisy from the "we want voter ID" crowd.
Explain how a permit to own a firearm is a bad thing?

The bill would let you buy unlimited ammo at the shooting range to use there (at 10x the price I'm sure), but only 20 rounds per month anywhere else. They should re-title this bill "Firing Range Owner Enrichment Bill of 2019".

They might get away with that in Portland but those mountain folk ain’t going to play that.

Basing all your legislation on knee jerk reactions and feelings with a profound lack of education in the subject you're trying to legislate?

Well, last time I checked, you have to provide an ID in order to purchase a firearm, so I am not certain you know WTF you are comparing it to...
Now, if we wanted to require a photo ID AND a permit to vote, then you might have a point...

Because denying a permit would be infringement? Therefore making permits either A) emotional knee jerk reaction or B) thinly-veiled rent seeking attempt by the state or C) all of the above.

The purpose of the 2A (along with the other things in the BOR) is to prevent government from encroaching on the inherent rights of the individual. If you have to request express permission from the government to do something, it's no longer a right.

The press should probably be required to have permits to publish stories.

I've had to show ID for every firearm purchase, Cletus.

So this is ok when it comes to voting? Look I'm not agreeing with the bill outside the valid permit part. Just seems to be a double standard when you apply the same line of thinking to voting.
