I don't know, but it didn't happen overnight. First I read about it was 5 or so years ago.
I know in K-12, girls have been doing substantially better than boys for quite a while and in terms of college degrees, it has been women heavy for a quite a while. 25 years ago nearly 60% of new college grads were women.
